My concern about the game- UT is eerily similar to Lane Kiffins team in 2009. Rebuilding, barely .500, not overly impressive, had been blown out a time or two. Result-We block a field goal on the last play of the game to hold on. You never know what a rivalry game holds in store.

My positive response to myself-That being said, you can bet your last dollar that Coach Saban realizes that poll voters will be scrutinizing and comparing the score with Oregon's complete destruction of the Vols. So I don't expect a letdown like we had in 09.

We won't beat them as bad as Oregon because we simply don't choose to beat teams that badly, but I think it will be a decisive win.

UT- 9

Sip,

I hope you are correct, but I just think this one could be a close one.

Here's hoping that our OL protects A. J. We don't need any sacks on A. J. Apparently Tenercee has a very good D line. You saw what happened to Shaw. I hope they don't get to A. J.

I think the Offense has been averaging over 200 yards a game. Their O line is not bad.

The Tenerce players are fired up after beating USCe and they think they can do the same to Bama.

I hope it doesn't come down to a field goal on the last play. This could be close! (Have I said that before?)

I do agree that the national press are going to be comparing scores.

What will the weather be like?

We need to come out of this game with a win and NO injuries!

I think the odds of this one being close are about 1 in 872. :biggrin2:

Seriously, chew on this for a second:

1) The Vols are averaging, against BCS AQ opponents, giving up 36.25 points per game while those same opponents are averaging, against BCS AQ opponents, scoring 36.0 points per game; the Vols' Defense is giving up 0.25 more points per game than their opponents' counterpoint average.

2) Alabama is averaging, against BCS AQ opponents, scoring 41.8 points per game while those same opponents are averaging, against BCS AQ opponents, giving up 31.6 points per game; Alabama's Offense is scoring 10.2 more points per game than their opponents' counterpoint average.

3) Using the Vols' defensive scoring differential, Alabama should score 42.05 points against them; using the Tide's offensive scoring differential, Alabama should score 46.45 points against the Vols. Average the two together, round to the nearest likely score, and that puts Alabama at scoring 45 points against the Volunteers.

Do you really think that this ut squad is going to put up anything even remotely approaching 45 points?

Or do you think that they are going to do something they haven't been able to do yet this season by holding the Tide to, say, half its scoring average?

I decided that I would do this for the Vols' Scoring Offense versus our Scoring Defense, just to see what those differentials would predict for a final score.

1) The Vols are averaging, against BCS AQ opponents, scoring 21.25 points per game while those same opponents are averaging, against BCS AQ opponents, giving up 23.925 points per game; the Vols' Offense is scoring 2.675 fewer points per game than their opponents' counterpoint average.

2) Alabama is averaging, against BCS AQ opponents, giving up 11.8 points per game while those same opponents are averaging, against BCS AQ opponents, scoring 23.48 points per game; Alabama's Defense is giving up 11.68 fewer points per game than their opponents' counterpoint average.

3) Using the Vols' offensive scoring differential, they should score 9.57 points against us; using the Tide's defensive scoring differential, they should score 9.125 points against us. Average the two together, round to the nearest likely score, and that puts the Vols at scoring 9 points against our Defense.

So, the Scoring Offense/Defense Differentials (Against BCS AQ Opponents) predicts a final score of:

Alabama - 45
ut - 9

I think UT will be emotionally spent from the last second win this past weekend. We have been there done that so it was just business as usual beating Arkansas the other night. I like the Vol running back, but their QB was replaced earlier in the year. Everybody keeps talking about how much better they have gotten the last few games, but we have improved quite a bit as well.

The viles might think they're ready for Bama, but they're not ready for this Bama team. It's true that UT is better than Arky, but not that much better.
Bama scores early and takes a commanding lead while holding UT to 3 FG's. At least Butch Jones doesn't take the Bret Bielema approach and actually tries for the FG's.

The orange puke struggles offensively, but at times on defense their front seven play well. I still think Bama scores, pretty much at will if they have no turnovers or stupid penalties, and I just don't see the passing accuracy needed for the OP to score unless they run the ball on Bama. Did I just say that?
Will edit Thurday or Friday (after hey coach), but for now...

This is from the guy who thought last week might be close, so.... ;)
