I agree with this thought but I don't think the changes need to be major. I think the FIRST step is to simplify the scheme.

Some slightly smaller, quicker pass rush ends would help tremendously.
That's what we've been trying to recruit. I know I don't want to see Pagan (or anybody built like him) trying to pursue the QB on a rollout any more...

Giving up 28 points off turnovers just killed us. Feel bad for the seniors, they accomplished a tremendous amount over the course of their careers.

I'm perplexed by comments that our coaches don't understand the importance of certain games to our fans. As if they plan with a different intensity for different games or plan around how the fan base feels about a game or an opponent. This is absurd, IMO. They prepare and plan to win every game. Period.

Sometimes they make mistakes and sometimes they just flat get outcoached; but I doubt that how fans feel about a game or team ever enters the equation. Nor should it.

This game eased the pain of the Iron Bowl. OU has a good team but if we had won the Iron Bowl and then played like this against FSU it would have been an udder embarrassment. :eek2:

This is the problem when your goal is MNC or bust. I'm disappointed, but not surprised at the result tonight. OU flat-out wanted it more and made more plays. The future is still quite bright, so nobody jump off any ledges.
What's funny is that 'NC or bust' attitude is precisely what Saban's 'process' preaches against - it's not about the eventual goal, but rather each play, executing to the fullest.

just like with the Aurbren game, i think we underestimated the Sooners. Cant just show up and expect to win against a team with talent. they had zilch to lose and they layed everything on the line. that was my fear going into this game.
That's pretty much the whole thing in a nutshell. Not as bad as the Utah debacle, but we still didn't have the focus we needed. Hopefully this will make us better next year.

Maybe not, but I don't think there's a thing wrong with looking at your team and reminding them what it means to wear that Crimson jersey and to think about where they stand historically. That doesn't happen, and again, most of the time I can't argue with the results. But seeing as how we just lost two games to two teams that do a stellar job of getting their players to understand the history of their programs (inflated or not is irrelevant), it's something that comes to mind.

11-2 is nothing to be upset about. Yes, it was a tough loss, but OU kicked our tails. They came to play, and I think it got in our heads. Our future is definitely bright. Answer the QB question in the spring and I think we will do well next year. We still recruit the #1 class and picked up a CB today. We are not entitled to winning. We have to earn it. Roll Tide!

You know, Paul Bryant ran into this same brick wall one time. We couldn't beat our way out of a wet paper bag. He went to visit Darryl Royal at Texas, learned a few things, brought them home, installed them, and then the next year beat the college football world like a rented mule. What was the idea that he used to revolutionize Alabama football? THE WISHBONE!!! What's the moral of the story? It's time for us to shake things up and change the way we play on both sides of the ball. I have NO idea what that should look like at the moment, but if Nick Saban is 1/4 as brilliant a football man as Paul Bryant was (and make no mistake, he is every bit Bryant's equal), then look for some serious changes to surprise us next year. In this world the only thing that is constant is change. We change or we wither and die like the Wing T and the Wishbone. We'll be fine. But we really sucked tonight. Really sucked...
TFB, Bryant was coming off two 6-5 seasons. Saban went 11-2 after winning three championships in 4 years. Changes, sure. Re-invention? Come on.

LOL. No kidding talk about trial by fire. Hope the CB's step up quick next season.
Truth to tell, our CB situation (and safety) was just one bandaid after another this season. I wouldn't be surprised to see a wholesale change of faces next year at corner. I just hope that Vinnie comes back. He graduates and, if he wants, he could transfer and play his last season with his dad at FSU. Not that he will; I'm just pointing out the obvious...

I just wonder if we will see changes in philosophy on offense next year. With A.J. gone, will there be more focus on running the ball (given Henry's performance). I know we have talent out wide, but we will also have inexperience under center. Something tells me that there will be emphasize on being able to run the ball up the middle, considering the problems we have had on short yardage.

Am I wrong or hasn't CNS hinted that this team may not have been as motivated to work as hard as past teams and felt a sense of entitlement?
It seems that has been discussed on here.

I'm not suggesting wholesale reinvention per se. As I said, I have no idea what those changes should or will look like. What I am saying is that Paul Bryant made significant changes to keep Bama in glory. Nick Saban will do likewise.

That may be the case, and I'd wager it is given the lack of freshman participation, but that's also a convenient way to deflect criticism of the coaching. Now I mean that from a fan's perspective, but still.

These are the days I wish I lived in Tuscaloosa. Misery loves company:) At least I could be surrounded by a lot of folks going through the same thing.

Gotta look at the positives. It's funny when your 11-2 and it's a off year. Yeah. We're living in another golden age of Alabama Football.

It's the end of a year in which Bama didn't achieve their goals. How do you react? That's when true character is shown. Looking forward to see how the under-class men take this loss. Wallow in self-pity or motivation of never feel it again.

Roll Tide!!

Living in Tuscaloosa will be like living in a morgue or funeral home until A Day.

However, be positive. No one has died and hopefully no Bama players got hurt.

We the fans are hurting because we have been on a football HIGH for so long.

You know, I'd rather be the big Underdog than be picked to win by 2 TD's+.

I never gave up hope for the Tide until that last fumble with 40+ seconds left. Didn't they score almost like that against Oky State?

That had nothing to do with tonight. The HUNH has reduced Saban's defense to grasping at straws and swatting at gnats. Anyone who watched the Iron Bowl and Auburn's offense then watched the OU offense tonight would have had to be dumb and blind to not see they took a lot of pages from Malzahn's playbook. I've watched OU several times this season and their offense has never looked like that at any point this season.

The reality of it is the HUNH has decoded and stripped down defenses like Saban's and if he doesn't change we will continue to see what we saw tonight and in the IB from a defensive perspective.

Saban said in an interview leading up to the game that he agreed with CK(possibly?) who had said all the winning had made them slack off a bit, and that perhaps we stopped doing some of the little things it takes to be a championship team...
