I actually came to a similar conclusion in the Auburn game a couple of weeks ago. Every close call (and some that should have been no-calls) were going AU's way. And we were the home team. Not until Tarrant was ejected for the (supposed) flagrant foul did the coaches and players get fired up and calls started going our way. In fact there were some bad calls that then went our way. My conclusion was that Pearl (and other coaches) that work the officials from the beginning get the close calls from the refs. It was obvious the refs had no respect for Grant, but they did for Pearl.
Not sure I would call it respect. I see it more as fearful or annoyed.

Sitting here watching this LSU-UK at Maravich with LSU up by four and less than 8 minutes remaining. Reminds me of what Coleman was like in the days of C.M. and Wimp and, at times, with Gottfried. It's sad. This is the kind of enthusiasm our program should be generating.

Just reading a few comments on the Bama/MSU game thread. The "a win is a win" idea after beating MSU is just depressing. They are such a bad team and it was a very close call that we win at all.

Some are still thinking we make it to the dance, but I just don't see it. I'm not sure we'd be tournament worthy even if we got to 20 wins.

The more I watch the direction of the program, especially the offensive trends, the more I'm convinced a change is needed at the top.

I agree it's going to be hard to reach the tournament. However, Bama's RPI is up to 57 after being at 70 following the loss to LSU. Those early season wins against Arizona State, Tennessee, and UCLA are paying off.

We know CAG has at least one - possibly two - less tournament appearances because of OOC losses coming back to hurt the team. Could this year be the opposite? Possible, but the pieces have to fall right in place. The first piece is winning out, which I'm not sure the team can do.

I get all the doom and gloom and can't argue it, I just can't add to it either - especially after a WIN!!! Until we have no chance at the gold - a NCAA Tourney bid I'm sticking with the thought that we can do this! Maybe I'm a mediocre fan, but I want that tourney more than a new coach right now. No, the gold is a NC. Silver - Final Four, Bronze Elite 8. Just making the tournament is like the Birmingham Bowl in football.

Again, stating the obvious - Alabama cannot afford another loss.

Here's the remaining schedule with each team's RPI:

Vanderbilt (110)
@Auburn (150)
Georgia (20)
South Carolina (107)
@Vanderbilt (110)
Ole Miss (38)
@Texas A&M (49)

The team is currently 2-7 against teams with a RPI in the top 50. The RPIs of the teams above can easily change, but Bama has the chance to make the record 4-7 or 5-7 depending on TAMU's RPI at the end of the year. That would be a little more intriguing to the committee, but the team is still facing an uphill battle.

Some can be as positive as you want, but we as fans need to face the realization this team has no room for errors. Win out with a 22-9 record, and the team might be able to get in.

I just don't think we will. But if we did win out, and won at least 2 conference games, we're in, as we will have beaten around 4 more top-50 RPI teams.

Just don't that heppening. Having guys hurt ain't helpin' either.

Don't forget the "eye" test!

Funny thing, even in a "win" we fail the "eye test."

The problem I have with our program and even this "poll" is most folks according to it believe we'll make the dance and CAG will be retained.

I'll be honest, I'm extremely torn on wanting these boys to have success and hoping it's not too much success for CAG to come back next year. Frankly, I've lost all confidence that he is the answer to Bama having a top notch SEC team and one worthy of making consistent runs deep into the NCAA tourney year in and year out.

For the good of the program in the long run, I don't want CAG to squeak out another season for us only to be right back here next year, as we were last year.

Just being honest.

Today's Daily Word on ESPN with Andy Katz, Myron Medcalf, and Eamonn Brennan discussed the SEC's tournament chances.

I have a problem with Brennan's comments. The SEC's current bracket standing is due to "better, smarter, nonconference scheduling," has "probably slighting inflated" the RPIs? Someone want to explain that to me? How is the RPI inflated if a team does what it needs to do in order to get a good RPI?

That would be like saying "Team Y over there has an inflated SOS because they went out and played the five best teams in the nation."

The ideal scenario would be 'Bama going on an unlikely tear through the rest of the regular season, the SEC tournament, and getting deep (at least two wins) into the Dance, and have some unsuspecting/naive/easily bamboozled AD from another school come calling for Grant's services as a (hah!) hot coaching commodity. Since we're talking fairy tales here, Voila! - at least that part of the problem that Grant's presence poses for 'Bama's hoops future would get resolved.

I've been looking at this all wrong!!!! :wink: Might as well dream of us running the table, getting our first NC in basketball, CAG get's hired somewhere else, and then Tom Izzo decides he rather spend his winters in Alabama and play golf with his buddy Nick Saban!!!:biggrin:

IOW, what Cuonzo Martin did last year.
