LSU's Fournette looking forward to Alabama

Players get asked by the media and have to respond with something. This doesn't look too bad. It's not like Fournette is running around spouting off a bunch of nonsense; he just has to respond to the media and it is easy to say something that is a little twisted.

True. It doesn't seem too bad. BUT, the key alway is, it can and will be spun into something bad by our coaches. And it will add even more fire to the motivation the team will already have.

I've heard folks point out that if you need the opposing team to spout off to get you fired up then you've got problems. And I don't disagree. But with Alabama under Nick Saban, it has NEVER been good to poke the sleeping bear. Or, elephant, as the case may be. It's a good way to get stampeded.

I am convinced our D will limit Fournette to less than a 100 yards rushing.

If he breaks 100 yards, it will be because he breaks a long one like Chubb. He is not going to consistently make 7, 12, 15 yard runs against our D.

I agree, but saying "everybody has their opinion" is a little different than saying "they are very good and I can't wait to compete against them".

Champions relish the challenge of playing the best to prove they're the best - I'd expect nothing less of Fournette.

I expect he'll get some yards, but also suspect it will be less than 180 yards UF yielded him.

IDK, Miles is likely to give that poor kid 80 carries against Alabama.

Fournette is bad news on the field no doubt. He ran extremely hard for the yards he got last year. But Bama is best at what it takes to stop Fournette. He could not have a worse matchup. If his QB does not hit some passes early it will be even harder on him. He is a special player, look forward to watching the pads popping in 11 days.

I watched some of the agbarn/LSU game, so that's not saying much about a defense. Fournette ran over and around them. Is Fournette getting yards on his own, or because he's getting stellar blocking up front. If he's a north/south runner and he's breaking a lot of tackles at the LOS, but not getting really good holes, then I really don't feel so good about his chances to dominate. I haven't seen many wide open holes where our front 7 just got stoned and if they get their paws on you, you are going down.

This. I just can't see him gashing our D at will. I am sure he will crack 100 and might do it with a long run but I doubt he just rips off chunks of yards. LSU has to pray that Harris can continue to play solid. If he stinks it up, we own them another year. We have to pray that Coker doesn't throw any picks. I feel this is going to be a pretty low scoring game and the team that does something stupid or gives up something crazy will lose.

WIthout that 88 yards, He would've been under 50 yards rushing. We had busted assignments by LBs on that play. He was struggling all afternoon long. Fournette is more of north and south runner... so He probably would end up with 70 yards rushing or less...
Wasn't that 83? :)

I really think he wins or loses the heisman against us. If he breaks a buck fifty, i think he's a shoo-in. If he is shut down, or anything in between, then I think it's a wide open race again with Derrick Henry actually having a shot.

I think the only way Henry has a shot is if we shut LF down completely- say less than 60 yards. Then Henry would have to surpass 150 himself. Henry would also have to average at least a buck fifty the rest of the way, and Bama would have to win out as well.

Not saying it's totally impossible, but the media has their guy in LF, and they are going to push him as their guy unless there is a major turn of events.

I think that Fournette can either win or lose the Heisman race in this game, but it is his to lose right now. Every big college football fan and pundit will be watching. Shut him down and beat LSU - he might not win. But his numbers are so much better than Henry's right now that I really don't see anyone giving it to Henry over Fournette.

Fournette will surpass 2000 yards rushing, in the SEC, in an 11 game season (because one of their cupcake games got canceled). He is averaging 7.7 yards per carry while being the work horse for that team. That's a pretty special season.

People seem to forget our opponents have had three holding calls all year long. Three. The interior line play of LSU will be a good place to grab, hold, and turn interior defenders to allow LF to get his yards. The key will be our young corners shutting down the outside, making LSU convert long yardage downs.

I don't really have an issue with LF. He seems to be a genuinely nice guy and his comments weren't terribly inciting.
