Oh and Mr. College football himself annoints Baylor as the best team in football. Finebaum at his finest. But honest to God you have to love him for being such an idiot.....And he is UcheatT grad. I guess his radio numbers are slipping...

Re: Tonights the first Playoff Poll release. What's YOUR prediction.

I'm sorry. This means utterly nothing. This is a picture taken right now. Where the teams stand right now. And I get it that some media morons are upset over this, but it literally means nothing. This will change next week. And the week after, and then again. We may win out and DROP in the rankings.

This isn't like the polls, and it's not like the BCS.

The Big 12 teams have yet to play their toughest games. That will increase their rankings.

But I will say this. It's apparent that the committee understands which league is the toughest league. That's encouraging, despite the moronic media's inability to get it.

Still so much football left to be played. I really believe it's going to be a chaotic November.
They may very well eliminate each other.

If Mississippi wins out they will have wins over Alabama, LSU and a revenge win against Florida. Even with 2 loses with that resume, they're in.

Why are people seriously taking him right now? He doesn't really believe Baylor is the best team in the nation.

Tonights the first Playoff Poll is released - YOUR prediction? (update: Bama #4)

Over a 1-loss Pac12 champ Stanford or ND? Nah...

Re: Analysis of First Playoff Poll

Stunned that the committee ranked Alabama this high - happy, but stunned. Really didn't give them enough credit. Alabama has, by far, the most impressive collection of wins right now. Beat LSU and no team will come close this year. Still, even with all of that, there are many scenarios in which Alabama wins out but doesn't win the SEC and gets left out - crazy as that would seem given this ranking.

Didn't watch. And I won't with dumb and dumber on the show. They have no ability to objectively separate themselves from their biased opinion.

I ain't putting a lotta stock in this round. If we defensively dominate the bayou tiggers, as I expect, then take care of biz in StarkVegas then I'll pay closer attention.

I'm glad the committee didn't turn out to be a bunch of liars, I'm still worried, but Alabama appears to be in a great spot. If they win, and that's a huge if, things will sort them-self out.

If we do not win the SEC, I believe we will get left out. Ole Miss has to lose in the West.
Ole Miss is out of it unless a bunch of other teams win.

By ranking LSU #2 and Alabama #4, they cleared the path for Alabama.

If Bama beats LSU Saturday, they might push Bama to #1 next week.

The heads exploding all over the country would be awesome...

Re: Analysis of First Playoff Poll

Two things must happen IMO for Bama to make the playoffs...
- Win out. (Duh...)
- Ole Miss must lose a conference game.

IMO at the end of the season Bama will need that 13th game - a conference championship - to make the cut. Arky... LSU... Miss. State... Someone must knock Ole Miss out of the SECCG.

I do not agree. Notre Dame and Baylor are the main competition, neither have that 13th game either. By ranking Alabama and LSU so high, they gave Alabama all the potential ammunition they need. Under what pretense would either of those two teams jump Alabama?

Mind you, I think Alabama could get jumped, by if Alabama wins this weekend they will be at least #3 meaning two teams would have to jump them.

Re: Analysis of First Playoff Poll

In a twist of fate...we could make the play off if Ole Miss doesn't lose.

We might actually NEED them to beat a one loss Gator team in the SECCG.

Think about that...we keep winning and so does OM and then we sit out the SECCG and still get in the playoff.

Similar to 2011, but totally different!

See, I told you the committee knows what they are doing. Have not made a bad decision yet imo

It's hard to say what all they can do, they're not exactly predictable. I love two things in particular though. I think they set the table for a one loss Alabama team to stay ahead of Baylor. That's big, there will be a huge SoS gap and much like they did to FSU last year they seem to be making the statement that you might get seeded lower if you didn't play tough schedule.

The other, perhaps more important part to me is that they didn't set up the winner of Stanford/Notre Dame to jump Alabama. Sure, they can give either team a big boost, but Alabama would get an even bigger boost if they beat LSU. So yeah, at this point I'm just worried about the game, not anything else.

Was right there with you until tonight. Without a championship game, a one-loss Big 12 champion is on a level playing field with us - and we'd have a better SOS. A two-loss Stanford also evens the playing field with us - as does Ole Miss winning the SECCG. I have to believe at least one of these scenarios happens - if it does we're in UNLESS we look like a terrible team down the stretch.

Keep winning our games and believe that things will work themselves out. Don't see much point in getting bent out of shape about what MIGHT happen. We have an opportunity. Make the most of it, team.

And Ole Miss still has to lose, we don't go to SEC Champ game, we won't be in even if we win out. The 2011 LSU-Bama rematch is what created this committee crap IMHO.
Well, if we win out and Ole Miss wins the SEC, and Alabama is in the playoffs again, does that mean they'll have to create a NEW committee or just add more teams to the Playoffs?

Have to remember this isn't like the traditional AP poll where a team keeps it spot just by winning. TCU was top 4 last year (3 I believe) and got dropped to 5 the last week. Teams will be "re-ranked" each week..

Re: Analysis of First Playoff Poll

I think Ole Miss has to lose and Bama has to win the conference to get in.

Consider that the game that brought the play-off discussion to a tipping point: the LSU-Bama rematch.

I don't see any scenario in which the committee puts Alabama in if we don't make it to Atlanta. I think that as long as it's a 4 team race, the committee will choose 4 conference winners or a 1-loss Notre Dame before it chooses a 1-loss team that doesn't win it conference, for the very reason above. They will remember the outrage at a team that didn't win its conference won the national title. The committee will take the CYA route and pick only conference champions to avoid another outcome like 2011.
