The two teams that stand between us and the playoffs are both run first teams and who ever we put in Jackson place they are going to be about 10 lbs heavier and might be ok against running teams. My concern is that our offense looks worse than any other under Kiffin and we havne't faced any good defenses yet, and LSU and Auburn have defenses that are very solid. I'm sure we've saved a few wrinkes for them but our passing game is non-existent.

According to that chart, the offense averages 43.9 a game so far this season but that can't be right. The team averages that but I wouldn't say the offense does. I don't know how this compares to other seasons but defense and special teams have piled up some points this year. Lot of yards after catch this season on passing but I remember this being the case for some other seasons as well. The jet sweep that is often technically a pass is an example. Pretty eye opening numbers though...

I'm not sure if you've been watching the games we've been watching. What do you mean by " offense looks worse than any other under Kiffin and we haven't faced any good defense yet"

1. Kiffin may frustrate lot of people with his playcalling, but you can't deny the fact he is real good at it, and He has found a way to get us points that we need in the game. I don't think we are struggling on offense. Hurts just need to improve on his reads and throwing ball and Offense will be even more dangerous. Read the article: http://www.campusrush.com/college-football-coaching-carousel-lane-kiffin-2062026270.html

2. I'm not sure what their weight has to do with the FS/SS positions. as long they can tackle and cover a man, we should be okay back there. Minkah is very similar to Eddie Jackson, just little bigger. Putting Hootie/Harrison back there wouldn't be bad, but we would be giving up big plays time to time with those two back there. So Minkah to FS would make sense with Tony at Star is actually brilliant and Tony is a lockdown defender when he wants to.

3. It's not about who has good defense/offense. It's about Alabama team executing their assignments and do things right. If they can do that, they will be fine against LSU and Auburn. At this point, I wouldn't even worry about our passing game, if it's not broken, don't fix it. Just continue to play to our strength and get creative.

day-day is correct, that chart is wrong.

The team is averaging 43.9 but, the offense is only averaging 33.5 (if I did my math right). That would actually be the lowest of the Kiffin era.

Here is how I got my number (I counted just FG and offensive TD): USC - 45, WKU - 31, Ole Miss - 27, Kent - 41, UK - 27, Ark - 35, UcheaT - 35, A&M - 27.

but how many times have we shut the offense down after going up big due to n.o.t's, so i don't think that number is really indicative of the effectiveness of the offense this year.

I agree but still, our offense is not scoring 43.9 ppg. The team is scoring 43.9 ppg.

I think this is one of Kiffin's best offenses, I was just pointing out that the chart isn't 100% accurate.

The offence has been good.

Some of the play calling though has meant that good has not always translated to equal effective. I would suggest the first 3 quarters against aTm demonstrated that.

Against a stronger team we may get punished for that. Although I'm not sure how much stronger than 6th in the country we're likely to face.

The NOT was pivotal too and we didn't really appear secure until after that occurred.

I'm concerned about losing Eddie's instinctively reacting to the offence in the passing game. Harrison seems to be his best near the los ala p last safeties who were great against the run but hit or miss in coverage.

I just hope that the team can get through these next few weeks injury free especially against State.

Offense is averaging 498 yards per game with 34 touchdowns. That is 238 points for the season.
Griffth has kicked field goals 10/15 and he put 30 points on the board for the season.

Defense is averaging 274.6 yards per game with 9 touchdowns. ( 5 fumbles returned and 4 Int returned for touchdowns) That is 63 points for the season.

So, offense is not struggling.

Minkah can do that. Remember last year against TAMU and he hauled in 3 ints. and This season, He has been doing lot of different stuff, so he was doing same thing what eddie was doing time to time. That's one thing I hate about TV, is that they never show the whole field so we can see what DBs are doing.

And your evidence backing up this claim is what?

I will say Auburn's defense is capable of slowing us down, but on the flip side of that argument is the fact that Auburn has Kevin Steele and has only played 1 ROAD GAME all year. So we have a very familiar defensive coordinator opposite to us and a team that hasn't left home against a real team yet. LSU is only a concern if we don't put them away before the third quarter. I actually figure that it will be similar to last year because we are still playing against a Chavis recruited defense, and we saw what happened last week.

Also take into account that there were reports that we had a bad practice last week, and our offense still put up 25 points on one of the better defenses in the SEC. That's about an average Mac score in his best games. So I don't know how you can come to the conclusion Kiffin is really slacking this year. I can agree that the Ole Miss game wasn't a great day for our offense, but it was a true road game against a quality SEC opponent who could challenge our offensive line. And it was the third game of the season. LSU and Auburn haven't been through the gauntlet we have. Yes Wisky and Clemson trumps USC, but they both haven't had the stretch we have had since week 3.

Did you do the same for the other years? I just checked the first 8 games of the 2014 (35.6 ppg) and the 2015 (28.9 ppg) seasons. You're right this offense is averaging 33.4 ppg through the first 8 games.

Early in the season I wouldn't have thought so but now I would say our next game - LSU at night in Death Valley - will be our most difficult game of the season. The coaching change has really turned their season around and Coach O is one win away from being anointed the chosen one. The buzz around LSU has reached fever pitch and they will be coming at us hard. That team has really taken on the personality of their interim head coach and I see that as a dangerous game for us. This is going to be another BAMA-LSU Game for the ages.

This will make it all the more satisfying when we see the shots of the crowd and their sad little faces as the clock hits 0:00.

Thanks! I mentioned in my post that I didn't know how it compared to the previous years (could have just said I was lazy...). The actual yardage and balance looks great for this season and as someone else mentioned, defense and special team TD's take possessions away from the offense.

The only quirk I see is maybe in the difference in the types of passes. Some years a good chunk of passing yards may come from the ball being thrown downfield while others it might be from running a short catch down the field.

When a NOT occurs the offense loses a possession. If you add in the number of points that Bama would have scored, which is (2.78 pts per possession * 12 NOTS / 8 games = 4.2 pts per game). So, a more accurate depiction of Bama's scoring avg is 37.7 not 33.5. So, this is the highest scoring team in the Kiffin era. And that is likely without the NOT adjustment for the previous two years.

Also did you subtract the NOTs from the previous year's scoring avgs ?

Also, the total offense numbers have been better this year.

I think the games keep getting tougher because of the winning streak. After winning 20 straight it's very easy to become complacent.
You'd think but this team simply doesn't show that at all. Remember when CNS called the 2011 defensive a "hateful bunch" because of how singularly focused they were on annihilating their opposition? He talked about how he didn't have to scream at them. Ride their butts to stay focused etc. They did all of that themselves within the unit. Those groups are rare at all levels and it is that quality I see in this group. They truly seem to love competing and love playing for each other.
