Wondering if anyone has had a chance to analyze the Clem-Pitt, Troy, and NCSU games to see some of their tendacies and how we can exploit them. I only caught the tail end of the Pitt game so I don't know what caused Clemson's D/O fits

* Forget their running game. It isn't a weakness, but they are not strong enough up front to run against Alabama.
* They have a QB who throws dangerous passes, many of which are intercepted. With the pressure that you bring, that probably means at least 2 picks for Alabama in this game.
* They have a defensive secondary that can be exploited.

Just off the top of my head and based off the 4+/- games I saw:

O-Line is a liability, but is masked by Watson's scrambling ability, the physicality of the RB's, and the weakness of the schedule.

Pass defense. Medium to long should be there at some point for the taking and if we can get good blocking on a bubble screen and make a man miss...

Aggressiveness can potentially be attacked by misdirection and screens - perhaps on the same play. They flow to the ball well but backside contain is vulnerable, IMHO.

Special teams defense.

Turnovers. About 2 a game. If we are fortunate we get 3 and take at least one back for a score.

They turn the ball over A LOT. They average right at two per game - only 11 teams out of 128 are worse than they are.

They get flagged for A LOT of penalties, too (they rank 85th with 6.5, we get 5.5 thanks to the huge number the other day).

Of the top seven offenses they've played, five lit them up for their average, Auburn was held below it but still nearly beat them, and they shut out Ohio State, who has turned out to have compiled those numbers against some "not as good as they looked on paper" defenses.

If we get our 31.8 ppg real offensive average, we'll win it.

They turned it over a lot last year, too. They had 26 coming into the game as well, and we only got one.

Averaging 2 turnovers a game could definitely turn into a NOT, I have a feeling they come out with too much emotion and it could put them down early in the 1st quarter. Question is, can we capitalize off their mistakes if given a short feild to work with

Four times this year they gave up less than than seven points in a win.
The next week, after such a stellar defensive performance, they gave up an average of 38 points.
So "consistency" isn't one of their strengths.

Somewhat related: My local expert says that OSU has a weak offensive line so there was a big mismatch in the Clemson game. Don't know what others think and I don't have a clue other than someone else's opinion. Though Clemson's DL is not a weakness, maybe it is not as great as indicated in the playoff game?

I agree about Dabo--he literally lucked out and fell into this situation when Tommy Bowden was fired. I don't care what he does at Clemson, i will never forgive him or our other coaches that were on the Dubose staff and what they did to our program. I dont ever want him within 100 miles of Tuscaloosa.

Not weak - we were in the running with Alabama and Iowa for the best O-Line award.

ETA, our center won the Rimington award and he got bulldozed a few times in the game. Their DTs are legit.

Tommy Bowden was fired EIGHT years ago. Be as mad as you want about his time here but it's undeniable he deserves credit for their ascendancy.

I think its rather ironic at the number of Alabama fans that are totally Ok with McElwain succeeding at Florida, but are not ok with Dabo succeeding anywhere.

I don't know, nor do I pretend to know what personally happened with him during his time here as an assistant, but that has nothing to do with him being probably the 2nd or 3rd best coach in the country. Seriously, who defeats Fisher,Miles, Meyer, and Stoops twice within 5 years and isn't considered a good coach. I cant remember Clemson being this consistently good ever. Dabo is a lot more than just Deshaun Watson.
