When they get that archrivalry thing going with GaTech playing The Battle for the Lester Maddox Silver Axe Handle, the stadium will swell beyond capacity in no time...Same thing vs. GaTech in baseball at Turner Field playing The Battle for the Greg Maddux Pitching Toe.

You guys do know the Georgia State has a bigger student body than UGA and Georgia Tech, right?
I graduated from UAB and used to spit on my alumni pleadings and updates before throwing them in the garbage 😊; ultimately they stopped sending them.

Actually, GSU is harder to get into than UGA. In the early 90's I took some classes at UGA so I wouldn't have to take them at Clayton State.
that used to be the case, but it isn't anymore. Average ACT at UGA is now a 29 with a 3.9 GPA. Georgia state it's a 22 with a 3.4. The Hope scholarships have really ramped up the requirements to get into UGA.

Those are not going to be passionate Panther alumni who will be coming back for games many years after graduation. Likely, they'll be attending games in Athens, or they have nothing to do with the state of Georgia and care nothing for football or sports in general.
That is what happens, when you watch too many Falcons and Braves games.

As an aside, I give UAB football 10 years and we will talking about discontinuing the program. CBC will be fully vested in state retirement by then and the charade and head torch bearer will fade away.

I actually like what GSU is doing, especially with turner field. That being said, I don't think what they are doing can be replicated in Birmingham with UAB. ATL is a huge population center and an international city--Birmingham is not.

Well, they've already done better than I than I thought they they would. I predicted that when Ray Watson called their hand on real money support, the "boosters" would fold. To their credit, they didn't.

Still, the true test of a program is how the fanbase supports it when it's struggling even after a major initial capital injection.

I'm far from convinced that, when the emotion of the shutdown / resurrection plays out, and it comes time to pour another $10 million into a program that struggles to break even in a conference that in turn struggles to maintain Group of Five status, they'll pony up.

I think there'll be a ton of long sad shaggy-dog stories. But when it comes time to stroke a bunch of checks, they'll find their collective arms short and pockets long.

If they find the money, I'll stand wrong, and say so on this forum. I don't think I'll stand wrong.

I found this article about the attendance of Home Games in 2016 & Georgia St averaged 15,103..Playing in a smaller stadium will make the home attendance look better than it does playing in the Dome..

Here's The Link..CLICK ME

Here's a article I found about Georgia St students footing over $90 million since the football program was created 5yrs ago..That's a staggering amount & could explain why there's not many students attending home games..

Wouldn't Clark already be fully vested from his HS coaching days?

You guys do know that Coach Brick though my window "Bill Curry" started the program. Well Kennesaw State University in Marietta, now how a FBS football team and they how more students than UA. Can you name the Kennesaw State mascot? Its the Owls. So Atlanta has 2 metro colleges that have football teams. I hope the University of Aubarn schedules the Owls soon.

He may be already i don't know. But he has an unusual interest/commitment to a program that is going nowhere. There are literally 50 other D1 programs for which CBC could be a legitimate head coach candidate for with better program potential than UAB even GSU. I can sort of see why Joey Jones would do what he is doing at USA being a native of Mobile, the recruiting base, and a better long-term potential to build a program that actually did quite well this year. CBC and UAB I am just not seeing the connection. The whole saga around UAB and its football ambitions has never smelled right to me.

Don't know why he hasn't gotten another job, but he isn't mentioned for many - if any - jobs. Doesn't make sense. He could do much better.

The obscene waste of money aside, the 15,000 number is almost certainly not actual attendance. Previous topics have documented UAB shenanigans, and despite the fact that the NCAA has never actually enforced the rule, there's usually a few programs that magically make it over that mark to pretend they should still have a program. So actual paid attendance, as the picture indicates, was almost certainly far lower.

Anyway, there's just no legitimate reason for a lot of these programs to have a program. South Alabama for the record was at 16K which is around where they have been hovering for a few years. I'm sure glad I have to pay for it to...
