Alabama DC Search (2017)

Pretty sure there was talk in 2015 of Saban interviewing Chizik before eventually hiring Pruitt. He clearly respects him as a DC.

Chizik would be similar to Kiffin. Forget his time as a head coach and look at his job as a coordinator. He might not be able to handle an entire program, but he can coach a defense.

Uh, no! Never...!

I don't know....I think Chizik might be one of those guys who is a really good co-ordinator, but just isn't HC material.

If Saban thinks he's the best option, I'm good.

Not only that, but he knows where the skeletons are buried on the plains. Would be useful information.

And they may still be paying him. Not sure on that, but we might save a dime or two.

seems like a more decent person than lane too ;)

I'm always up for paying former Barn head coaches to come back and beat their old teams. Coaches are mercenaries hired by tribal minded schools - so, to me, while I loathed Chizik as an Alabama fan because he opposed us, I'd absolutely use his skill set to inflict pain back on his former team.

No doubt the guy is good. Perhaps I could get use to his "cheesy" grin that burned me up when he was wearing it on the Auburn sideline.

Very well said...someone once said that CNS was a mercenary...to which came the reply, "Yes -- and aren't we glad he is our mercenary."

This^^^. Seems like a really decent guy and from watching the SEC Network he has always shown respect and admiration for CNS and Alabama.

Good point. I know he improved UNC's defense fairly dramatically while he was there. Take what Chizik knows along with the Saban defensive philosophy and you have a good DC. Will be interesting to see if this one gets legs.

Frankly, I just hope and expect CNS to hire the very best DC that`s available and interested. I wouldn`t care if the guy last coached at the University of Pyongyang, if he`s the best.

Yes, I hope he hires the best DC available, whether he is from the college level or the NFL. I wish JP would have stayed another year, especially since most of our secondary will be gone.

Is there anything to this beyond what Finebaum has said?

If this is coming from his time on the Morning Drive this morning with Jay Barker then I would say no. If I remember correctly he was asked a question about it and he just gave his opinion. It sure didn't sound like he had any inside info.

Well, I had the same reaction to Kiffin as a potential hire and I guess it worked out pretty well...
