Alabama DC Search (2017)

As I said last week, it’s either Tosh (in house pick) or Chizik. I’m sticking to that prediction. I’d take either. Trust the Process.

thought this was a joke and normal finebaum trolling, but some interesting points that followed...hmm

This^^^. Seems like a really decent guy and from watching the SEC Network he has always shown respect and admiration for CNS and Alabama.

I’m glad someone else posted this - couldn’t stand chizik as a barner, and by same extension on secn before he went to unc - agree though, also thought he has been good on secn this season, but never said it out loud

Barring something from left field, I tend to agree. I'm sort of leaning back towards Tosh and I don't know how I feel about it...

Any idea on the time frame of the announcement?
Honestly with the early signing period, and locking down few of commits...I think Saban would want the new DC to come to practices and observe few things kinda like Pruitt did two years ago.....

But I seriously doubt he'll make any announcement anytime soon.... I think Saban had few people who were hired and then changed their mind to go to FAU, so Maybe he's keeping it under wraps for as long as he can...

I was thinking he might announce before national signing day, but it is better to make sure you pick the right candidate. It will be interesting who shows up for practices.

If Coach Saban hires Chizik... I'd have to quit calling him Cheez Whiz.
He is a solid Defensive coach even if he was a Barner.
Unless I'm bad wrong. Chizik is still being paid by Auburn.
Pretty sure they string out the payments so folks want tell where the bones are buried.

If Chizik were hired one benefit would be that he likely stays and we do not have to go through what we have with Smart and Pruitt again anytime soon. It would be good to have some stability at the DC position. I do not know much about his recruiting prowess which is a must have for CNS.

Not contesting your overall point, but Smart was our DC for 8yrs after Steele decided to go elsewhere. Pruitt is the first one to really leave early, although I kind of expected it with his ambition (just didn't expect Tennessee). I'd hardly call 8yrs of one coordinator then a new search after 2yrs horrendous stability. It's the offense that turns over coordinators every 3yrs like clockwork.

Oh yeah we would be looking in 1-2 yrs as I doubt he could cut it at Bama any longer than that. Never been that impressed with his coaching at all. Nick would chew him up, he does not strike me as the type who could work for Nick.

I get that some folks won't be able to get past the fact that he coached at Auburn, but...

During his last three years as a DC, Chizik's teams went 36-3 (.923) including two undefeated seasons (04 and 05 - at two different schools, no less). The three losses in 2006 came by a combined total of 26 points (8.6 points per loss).

By way of comparison, Smart's last three years as DC at Alabama yielded a record of 37-5 (.881) with the five losses coming by a total of 39 points (7.8 points per loss).

From Wiki: "His 2004 defensive unit led the country in scoring defense, giving up 11.3 points per game, and the total defense ranked 5th, which is the same ranking the 2003 team recorded. He garnered the 2004 Broyles Award, which is given each year to the top assistant coach in the nation. The 2004 Auburn Tigers football team finished 13–0 that year, won the SEC title, and defeated Virginia Tech in the Sugar Bowl. It placed second in the final AP and Coaches polls.

In 2005, Chizik was hired by Texas to serve as their co-defensive coordinator, assistant head coach, and linebackers coach. During his time at Texas, the team won the 2005 NCAA Division I-A national football championship by defeating USC in the 2006 Rose Bowl."

Serious question - what else would he need to do to impress you as a DC?

Yea, I called him Cheezik when he was at the Barn. He is a good defensive coach.
