Not from a Bama fan but from a professional:

There are many reasons for FSU’s struggles, but there’s one clear moment where things started going badly on the field: the third quarter of 2017’s blockbuster season opener against Alabama.

FSU can't go to the front of the line, they have to get in line. :)

I think Jimbo's divorce had more to do with it, FSU's attitude against Jimbo, and who they hired afterwards. You could really tell Jimbo wasn't the same at the time, and after his divorce. But Ive never seen the appeal of Willie Taggart

Sure Alabama was the reason for a 7-6 season last year, but I think those other three things are bigger reasons.

Jimbo may have realized his talent, particularly at OL, was wanting and found a nice landing spot.

Jimbo broke FSU football.

If you look at Jimbo's record without Jameis, you will see he is on the level of Gus Malzahn\Mark Richt - around 9 wins a year. Not bad, but just another good coach. I can see 9 wins a year at Auburn. 9 wins a year in the 'recruit rich' state of Florida at one of its best schools is another story. I expect him to have a few good years at aTm (the Auburn of Texas) and then putter out.

I think the problems were there since 2014 but they'd been getting worse while still winning for a few years. They've not been great on the OL for awhile. Jameis was able to us his big frame and good pocket awareness and arm to mitigate it...everyone else has been getting leveled.

I think the 2017 opener was a "Pepsi Challenge" where everyone in the program realized they don't measure up to the standard.

After seeing FSU's struggles last year, and the lack of effort in their first three games this season, I have been thinking to myself that we really crushed their souls in that season opener. It reminds me of Texas ever since that shot to Colt's shoulder. After their victory over USC last night, they may finally be reclaiming their mojo but, my God, it has taken a long time. I personally do not believe that Taggart is the right man for the FSU job. Could he succeed there? Sure, but I don't think he will be given the time. Florida State appears to be at the beginning of a loooooong, frustrating road to recovery. Oh, well. Roll Tide!!

FSU is EXTRAORDINARILY cheap as well. They haven’t kept up with the big boys in facilities or infrastructure for an elite football program. Jimbo Warned them and begged them but they told him to pound sound. He left but only after tanking it for a couple of years until a good gig (pun intended) opened.
