When is the last time you've seen a NCAA Football team have four straight shutouts?

I think we have a legit shot at doing it. I don't want to jinx it, but I think its extremely realistic because Auburns offense is hot garbage this season and Citadel wont present much of any challenge with their offense either.

Anyway, a win is more important no matter what the score is, but I thought i'd throw it out there that four in a row isn't out of the realm of possibility.

It takes more than skill to shut out an opponent. In the LSU and MSU games you needed them to miss chip shot FGs (and you needed the help of the officials against MSU). So, sure, it could happen, but it really isn't any more significant than holding 4 straight teams to 10 points or less.

Agreed. Don't get me wrong - I'm all for it - but by no means expect it to happen.

I don't know about that. We've held four straight opponents to 10 points or less fairly often - at least compared to most teams - but I don't think we've held four straight teams to zero points in my lifetime.

Is it some monumental, never-before-seem type of accomplishment? No, of course not. But it isn't insignificant by any means, either...

1959 Ole Miss had four straight

59 and 62 LSU had 4 in 5 games.

We had 3 in 4 games in both 79 and 80.

Different game.

The record for consecutive shutouts is 17 by Tennessee before WW2. You’ll see someone pass Cy Young’s 511 wins before you see that broken.

1966. Shut out the last 4 teams they played. Played Nebraska in the Sugar Bowl and only allowed them 7 points. Earlier in the season...they shut out 2 other opponents.

Perhaps not in your lifetime, but back in my student days the Tide racked up five shutouts in a row and it was awesome.

Pretty sure the 62 team had quite a few shutouts as well, not sure though if the had four in a row. Lee Roy Jordan was on that team—one of the best college LB’s of all time.

1966. Shut out the last 4 teams they played. Played Nebraska in the Sugar Bowl and only allowed them 7 points. Earlier in the season...they shut out 2 other opponents.

....and before that in 1961, six goose eggs in 10 games, five of them in a row. Only gave up 25 points in 11 games counting the field goal to Arkansas in the bowl game.

Additionally, that team didn't allow a TD for 7 straight games. The '62 team allowed Tulane a single TD that next year, so that's 8 games in a row w/o a TD. Pretty impressive.

I think Citadel gets a score due to a mistake on an option or depth clearing late but Auburn might struggle. Truly think we're heading towards our payback on the "honk if you sacked brodie" game

I'll be pretty surprised if Bama holds Citadel scoreless. Not because Alabama doesn't have the skill players, but because that offense is really tricky to defend against - largely because so few run it anymore.

I've been watching football long enough to have reached a few conclusions:
- I'm not counting on a shutout until the clock hits 0:00
- I'm not expecting an easy game against any opponent - especially if they run a quirky offense few do and do it well
- I'm not counting on a player winning the Heisman until I see them lift it up
- I'm not counting on wins / playoff positioning until it happens

We're watching a bunch of young men play a game who are the same age as those who commonly make really, really stupid, short-sighted decisions.

IOW, I'm counting no chickens over here. Let's just let the games play out.
