National Championship (LSU vs Clemson) interim thread

He still cannot garner a national audience. His shtick doesn't sell outside of the South, and he doesn't seem to have a strategy to reach other viewers. At some point he will outlive his usefulness if he doesn't change.
Frankly, I did not think he would ever reach the popularity that he has now. But you have to respect that PF has parleyed a one trick pony into a bigtime gig on ESPN. He is self made. He is one heck of an interviewer. Doesn't know the first thing about football though. I think he has cemented himself as an SEC guru nonetheless and suspect that the popularity of the conference he covers (not just Alabama and Auburn anymore) will keep him in funds for some time to come.

"The lines were not involved - just had to pick the team that you thought would win. I can see how that would be confusing to an ACC fan, though."

Nope.

No "ACC" fan here.

The ACC is not an entity.

The ACC is a group of individual entities.

I'm a Clemson fan, grad, etc.,.................

I also like Alabama and UCLA.

The rest of them can stand on their heads in a river.

I can trace Finebaum way back. To the Birmingham Post-Herald. He's always been a provocateur, and was worse then than now from what I recall. He knows that what he does is always going to attract a certain audience, and so 30+ years later he's still at it. I never dreamed he'd ever have a tv show, though, even if on SEC Network.

Dabo's a whiny idiot, so while I've no high praise for Orgeron, I hope LSU BOATRACES clempson.
I'm not a big fan of Clemson or for that matter Dabo, but I like both better than Ed O and LSU.
No one has taught Ed O or LSU how to win gracefully.
I can't pull for LSU or their loud mouth Cajun coach. I have to admit LSU has some great coaches on their staff, but Ed O ain't one of them.

Having followed 'Slimebaum' you know he sez things to rile up fan bases, then his phone lines light up. Over the years he has taken being a jerk, to the next level...
He has also made a lot of money doing it.
Think of him as Footballs Don Rickels...

I support Dabo and his Tigers over the bayou tigers. Clemson is the new dynasty, and I look forward to facing them next year and whipping their tail. Of course, I also look forward to whipping Ogre in his swamp. Ogre in his swamp...hahaha...he is literally Shrek.

Same here...If we can't win it I'll take an ex-Bama guy everytime! Amazing those on here who call Dabo an idiot...CNS and Dabo are the best 2 coaches in CF. Bama and Clemson have dominated the CFP era and both will be back and 1 and 2 next year. Yes CU does not have the 100 yr. tradition but as far as i"m concerned we are talking about the present not the past. Having said that, im not certain Clesmson can stop the LSU offense but i also did not think they could stop our "O" last year and they did. Tigers 41 Tigahs 35

I agree. I don't think LSU will be conservative one bit against Clemson. The left Burrow in the game a long time the other day vs. Oklahoma. I thought they would pull him after the first drive of the 2nd half, but they seemed to be keeping the foot on the throat of OU. Clemson looked like they hadn't been in a real game for a lot of the game the other night. Clemson did make plays to win the game though so you have to give them credit, and Ohio St. didn't make the plays they needed to in the red zone, but if the calls wouldn't have gone their way with the officials do you really think they get back in that game?

I know we may dislike LSU, but I have to like Joe Burrow because he is a worker. Fabio on Clemson just doesn't seem like he is all he is made out to be. He is 6-6 220 lbs. though. He has all of the qualifications to be a great one, but he isn't there yet. I would take Tua or Burrow over him any day.

Ole "Fabio" shred us like my mama used to shred cheddar cheese last year and ole "Fabio" literally ran through the best OSU team to ever be put on a field (what many OSU experts said) last week...kid may have "fabio" hair but also has big time guts and toughness.

We have been shredded by a few QB's over the last couple of years.

Lawrence is a very good quarterback, there is no doubt about that. However, I think his running genuinely caught Ohio St off guard. I didn't watch many Clemson games this past year because frankly they really weren't worth watching, but I doubt Lawrence ran it more than 8 times in the first half against any of those opponents because he didn't need to. Now that aspect of his game is well documented and I'm sure LSU will be ready for it. His passing abilities have not seemed to improve over the year and that's where I think LSU can take advantage. Lawrence's passing game seems to not be predicated on accuracy, but throwing jump balls to superior athletes. Stingley, Vincent and Delpit are pretty good athletes in their own right.

Who to root for in this game will definitely be the lesser of 2 evils for me. Would be rooting for LSU had they been able to have one ounce of class after their victory over us or since. Very tired of Dabo's playing the "lack of respect" card every game, but he may have a bit of a point this year, so I think I am going to have to pull for Clemson. Think LSU will win the game though.

Any idea when? Some of us have been waiting for that day to come for a long, long time...

I would prefer to see LSU win but don't believe they're gonna. LSU probably has a better offense than Clempson, and Burrow will likely put up some points, but Clempson's offense is no slouch. Clempson's defense is better than LSU's, and I believe Clempson will have a better matchup against LSU's defense than LSU will have against Clempson's.

Edit: Plus Clempson is lucky, has more experience in post-season play lately, and will get all the calls.

Just an observation on my part: Both Dabo and Coach O have this in common...they have great coaches on their staff. If that ever starts to erode then so will their success. I think we (Alabama) have experienced some of this ourselves with the coaching turnover. The difference between CNS and those two coaches is that he still has maintained a high success rate. Also, at one time Bama was getting a greater portion of the the elite players...now there is more competition for elite players. We do get our share and still recruit at a very high level however. My hope is that Dabo loses this year just to keep him from being considered CNS’s successor. I’m a little concerned about this game. It comes down to which coaching staff does the best job at “out scheming” the other. There is a ton of tape from a whole season for each coaching staff to watch and make adjustments. Burrow is really good at improvising while TL (aka Horse Mane) is better staying in the system (with the exception of the QB run from time to time). My concern comes from Venables coming up with a new look (similar to what he did against Bama). Anyway it will be fun to watch.
