diindolylmethane
frankly I question why they are being so aggressive with chemo as it is for an 82 year old. He does treatments every other friday and then feels like garbage for a week or so then has another treatment a few days later. I straight up asked his Doc last time and didn't get a great answer. I may have to join another appointment soon. Appreciate the link, going to look at that for me. Prostate Cancer killed my Uncle (dad's half brother we think due to recent DNA testing that showed my Dad having a different Dad than he had been lead to believe, his brother died 10ish years ago so no DNA to test to see) and it is definitely something that can be passed down so I am keeping an eye on everything
Read everything you can on it. Just Google "diindolylmethane." While you're at it, for your heart, look at vitamin K2 and its effect on reallocating calcium to your bones, instead of your arteries...

this is sort of the crux of the article. this has been a long time coming.

But as I said, virus denial is just the latest battle in a long-term war on truth....

And I’m not talking about fringe figures, I’m talking about people conservatives consider leading intellectuals....

But that’s the thing about political paranoia: You see even the most normal criticism as part of a sinister conspiracy. And the fact that this kind of paranoia has infected our ruling party is scarier than any virus.

The only advice I have is to talk to dad about it all, including end of life concerns; and based on those conversations attend an appt and have a convo in the same manner with the doc. Tell them when you call it needs to be a longer appt to talk about the path forward. Too many variables for me to say much else.

The only thing Oliver got half wrong is about silver, but a couple of caveats: 1. the crap they were selling is probably crap and 2. until there are studies regarding its effectiveness against this particular virus no one should be peddling it for that purpose.

It is pretty bad when the US government is at best on par with the Iranian government in terms of trustworthiness.

I don't know how aggressive his cancer is, and a lot goes into determining that, but I would certainly consider it. I wonder what 17's thoughts are. He should probably avoid exposure to crowds also. It's too late for him, but I've taken DIM (diindolylmethane) religiously for at least 20 years now. I saw my urologist for my annual visit last month and my PSA had dropped over last year's. DIM kills cancer cells in vitro and promotes cell apoptosis. It basically blocks the process of the conversion of testosterone into estrogen in older men. Here's Sloan-Kettering on it:

S-K
May I ask where you are getting the DIM and what the dosage is?

The brand I've always used is the BioResponse microencapsulated. DIM is, in the end, the end result of the digestion of cruciform veggies. The encapsulation makes sure it's not digested prematurely. The company is out of Colorado and I used to buy directly from them. However, it's cheaper through Amazon. I take the 150mg caps, which is the equivalent of a bunch of broccoli. I'm cursed with the super-taster gene, so to me, broccoli is extremely bitter, with an aftertaste of iron filings. My cruciforms have to come in capsule form...

Yeah, No

from the Mayo Clinic
Manufacturers of colloidal silver products often claim that they are cure-alls, boosting your immune system, fighting bacteria and viruses, and treating cancer, HIV/AIDS, shingles, herpes, eye ailments and prostatitis.
However, no sound scientific studies to evaluate these health claims have been published in reputable medical journals. In fact, the Food and Drug Administration has taken action against some manufacturers of colloidal silver products for making unproven health claims.
It's not clear how much colloidal silver may be harmful, but it can build up in your body's tissues over months or years. Most commonly, this results in argyria (ahr-JIR-e-uh), a blue-gray discoloration of your skin, eyes, internal organs, nails and gums. While argyria doesn't usually pose a serious health problem, it can be a cosmetic concern because it doesn't go away when you stop taking silver products.
Rarely, excessive doses of colloidal silver can cause possibly irreversible serious health problems, including kidney damage and neurological problems such as seizures.

i think i have the same thing, or something similar. i cannot eat broccoli or cauliflower without retching. even having something with broccoli in it (like a smoothie or juice) where i can't obviously taste it will leave me feeling nauseated. the weird part is, i have no issues at all with kale, cabbage, or brussels sprouts.

Broccoli and Brussel sprouts are my two favorite veggies. Unfortunately I like them cooked in pretty unhealthy ways

oh and Atlanta just confirmed its first 2 Cases. Both in Fulton county

i have two cups of chopped kale in a smoothie almost every morning for breakfast so i hope that is providing me some benefit.

i figured that georgia wouldn't announce any cases until alabama had

in all seriousness, i figure with hjia and the sheer volume of folks coming through, that we have quite a few more cases than this

Yeah, No

OK, let me be more clear:

Colloidal silver has been used for centuries for its antimicrobial properties - mainly in wound care but also in urinary catheters and other similar applications.

I do not advocate internal ingestion of the product at all.

The product was being touted to kill this virus on surfaces (that's what I heard, anyway). That may be possible but it would need study to prove it and in any case there are likely better and cheaper alternatives (like bleach or similar products).

Even colloidal silver impregnated dressings applied to wounds can lead to absorption of silver into the body and the effects described above (and other effects).

Do NOT buy colloidal silver products to protect yourself from this or any other virus.

Do NOT ingest colloidal silver to protect yourself from this or any other virus.

Science does indeed show colloidal silver has antimicrobial properties. That's where he was half right/wrong in declaring there was no science at all about using silver.

I hope that made what I'm trying to say more clear.

In short: colloidal silver has antimicrobial uses but none related scientifically to this virus.

P.S. This (the blue discoloration) happens sometimes with amiodarone, an arrhythmia drug. Methemoglobinemia can be hereditary (like the Fugate family) or acquired (like with quinine based drugs). Oxygen carrying capacity is not affected in any meaningful way, but it sure can scare the hell out of you when you're trying to figure out why your patient is blue and comfortable with normal blood gases. :D

yeah, supposed to go to Seattle in a couple of weeks and having that discussion with the wife. Should we go/should we stay home. Yesterday Seattle announced new deaths, more cases and the fact that the virus has probably been in circulation there since January. Her response, "Well then you know it is here too" I can't fault that logic. Hell I know too many people who work for AWS and Microsoft that have been to Seattle and back dozens of times since then that I regularly see both professionally and personally if I haven't been exposed yet it is only a matter of time
