Granted, last night's game is the first game-action I've seen of Stroud.

However, I didn't see anything last night to justify the hype, much less make me certain he'll eventually be an elite QB.

It's one game, though - so that could very well change.
I’m just disappointed that Day didn’t give any other QBs any reps. Seems like all of the other position groups had players shuttled in and out.

I can almost guarantee there will be a hit this weekend that won't look anything like targeting and it will be called targeting.
Between the tOSU and UCF games last night, it is clear to me I had no clue what constitutes “targeting”.

It is also clear that those officiating, regardless of conference, have no idea either.

Very entertaining game, much closer than I expected. Next week should be interesting as Oregon will send out a much more talented lineup.

Thinking about it a little more, if I were a Buckeye fan, I'd be a bit worried about the defense.

In the first game of the season, the defenses are often ahead of the offenses. And Minnesota's offense did very little unexpected, schematically, with much less talent on the field. Yet, OSU gave up over 400 yards of total offense and over 160 yards rushing to their starting RB.

Again, it's just one game, but significant improvement is needed in multiple areas for them to be better than they were last year.

Where ever there's BBQ, Bourbon & Football
Saying he’s a vinyl siding salesman masquerading as a football is an insult to vinyl siding salespeople everywhere.
When I first saw him, ESPN was doing a "spotlight" type segment during football season when he was at Western Michigan. I put him in the same category as Tom Hermon, just not impressed at all, and thanked goodness we had Coach Saban and not in a position to even entertain either of these guys.

I think Minnesota played their best game they'll play all year and OSU will look back and say this was one of their worst. This was Minnesota's national championship game and they unloaded their absolute best effort and still lost.

Perhaps.

Things will likely get a bit clearer next week.

As a reminder, though - half of the starting defense was replacing graduates.
In a hostile environment.
With a crowd IN the game.
On the road.

And the game momentum flipped (first) on two plays, the 4th and 1 long run, and the INT.

I'm not saying there aren't possible issues. I'm just saying let's not over read one contest. Minnesota had nothing to lose and everything to gain for their program - and just hanging tough with OSU elevated their profile last night.

Just my 2 cents but Ohio State is not a national title contender. Justin Fields is the best QB Ohio State has ever had and he is gone. You can have 2 of the best wide receivers in the nation but you need someone that can actually get them the ball. CJ Stroud has a really long way to go. Wondering if the kid with the really bad mullett (I know his name is Quinn Ewers) will get his chance. Would imagine 1 or more QB's on that roster will be gone soon. No way all 4 stay around.

Idk that's a bit extreme. It's week 1 and they are one of the most talented teams in the country. And like you said they have a ton of QBs on their roster, I have a feeling they'll figure it out.

IMO not much has changed after this game. Ohio State isn't the favorite to win the championship but they're the favorite in the Big10 to make it there.

The best QB they ever had just got out of prison at age 61 btw.

There really is no hype around Stroud. He just won the job, and the best QB on our roster should be playing HS football right now. But he is our starter this year.

Apparently we run in different Buckeye circles. :)

I've had no less than a dozen emails and messages from different Buckeye fans in the last month touting Stroud as a Heisman candidate this season.

I think most of the hype is around the WRs just need a good enough QB to get them the ball consistently.

Buckeye fans think that OSU is going to win the championship, Heisman, etc. every year. It is a disease, not hype. Tell me of someone outside of the OSU fan base hyping him.
