Player celebrations

Just rewatched some of the LSU game and the thing I noticed right away was the player celebrations, like Battle celebrating after defending a pass. I've always been proud of Alabama players for "acting like they've been there before." This year is different. The celebrations make them look immature...at best. Maybe that's a reflection of the maturity of the team?

I know I'm getting old, and I trust Saban's take on what's good for team chemistry and player morale, but if it were me, all that would stop until the team has something of significance to celebrate.

I totally agree. It’s all part of doing what you are supposed to do. Celebrate when the game is over. Oh yeah, I am getting old too.

I would prefer the two “T’s”, touchdowns and turnovers. I know it happens more often, but as long as it stays relatively clean and more about the player and not the opposition I’m okay with it.

CELEBRATE when you WIN as a TEAM. We need END game celebrations, not intermittent celebrations. It takes ENERGY to Celebrate. Save that energy to make the plays necessary to WIN the game. On Gameday, the objective is to WIN the game! WIN!!!!!!! Then CELEBRATE with your teammates, coaches, family, girl friend, et al.

Score a TD and hand the ball to an referee. Intercept a pass and hand the ball to a referee. Catch a pass and hand the ball to a referee. Recover a fumble and hand the ball to a referee. Kick a field goal and let the referee get the ball.

Alabama is more discipline than most and shows more respect than most teams to their opponents than I’ve seen in the country. Herbstreit harps on this all the time. Saban handles anything inappropriate immediately.

It's not going to stop. Not sure it needs to. But I understand why it bothers some people.
I have a problem with the celebration after you’ve been beaten by the opposition. You tackle a guy five yards past the line of scrimmage on first down, he beat you.
Same scenario for a receiver catching an 8 yard pass; I don’t care how hard you tackle him, HE BEAT YOU on that play. I understand if it’s a third down stop, but I’ve seen many occasions where that isn’t the case.
Celebrating for anything short of a successful play is tawdry and cheap; an unnecessary and unjustified cry for attention IMO.

I'm sick and tired of it. No sense in showboating when you're doing what you're supposed to do.
They aren’t celebrating for doing what they are supposed to be doing. They are celebrating the outcome.

I don’t celebrate going to work each day. But if we get a “win” and drive additional revenue or opportunities, we celebrate.

When they sack someone or get a pbu that’s a “win”. They are celebrating that.

If it’s 3rd and 18 and give up 10 and they have to punt, is that not a successful play?

I don't have a problem with the celebrations as much as the thuggish act of standing over a player you've just tackled and stare down at them. A lot of those guys are walking a tightrope on the taunting call. You know what I'm talking about. They'll intentionally get their legs tangled up with the guy trying to get up while looking down at them. It's complete trash and has no business in the game.

It seems to be getting worst this year and I have been nearly posting about this myself. I've seen an ad on TV showing maybe 15 football players doing a chorus line of dancing girls routine on the sidelines and saying to myself that is what we'll be seeing before long.

It is. Any play that gets defense off the field on third down is a win. Or stopping a fourth down attempt. But the scenario I wrote about falls into neither category.
I thought I allowed for that in my post. 😉

You did. I guess my point is. Let them play. If it’s not taunting and not in the heat of the moment and they need to get reset. But if it’s 1st and 20 and they tackle Hendon Hooker for a 4 yard gain on a shoestring tackle, I’m good with a happy and short celebration.

It seems to have started a few years ago with the receiver core, and I think for us long time followers, we're just not use to seeing it from the Tide.
I personally think all the hand jive is very "middle schoolish", but hey...
The ones I always shake my head about are the defenders whose coverage, or lack thereof, had absolutely nothing to do with an incompletion, but give a "not against me" gesture.

In my mind, a successful play is one where, on first down, if replicated two more times, it’s another first down.
I don’t think you should celebrate when the opponent has a successful play. That’s the only scenario I’m talking about.
It’s stupid; you didn’t win the play. You didn’t “do your job”, which is to prevent successful plays. And you want to celebrate that?
