It's amazing to me that most Bama fans think the commentators are always rooting against us when most rival fans are convinced they love all things Bama.

Here's what usually happens. Commentators are supposed to be "neutral" but when they find themselves calling a game between Bama and "name almost any team in football" (other than teams like TOSU, Georgia or Clemson) and they find that Bama is so much better they have to try to "talk up" the opponent. And anytime whoever is playing Bama gives us a decent game they are just happy the game is competitive and they are hopeful the game will just go to the fourth quarter so they are NOT making a Brent Mustberger comment about Bama's QB's girlfriend in the stands in the second quarter because the game is already a blowout.

As for me, I liked Danielson and the knowledge he brought to the game and I even miss Vern, even though he messed up a lot of names. I think he was very underrated as a playcaller.

So ESPN and ABC are the future of the SEC? We lose the 2:30 CBS game too? If we go all cable it will hurt the conference long term. Just don't see any way around that.

ESPN, with their disdain for anything pro-America, just seems like a match made in hell for the SEC. Right now it seems like the B1G is kicking our butt...what will we see from Sankey to counter?

Are these deals exclusive, meaning CBS can't also strike a deal with the SEC? I liked the 2:30 CBS game. Have to admit I haven't really kept up with this very well, but, from what I've read in this thread I don't like how it's trending.

JMO, but I think the Saturday night ABC crew does the best job in calling/producing college football right now.

Blackledge and Nessler are great and so are Herbstreit and Fowler, not to mention McDonough and Tessitore.

Wait til you hear the CBS music and get all sentimental, and instead of Bama v. LSU or UGA v. Florida its Iowa v. Nebraska or Rutgers v. Northwestern. Makes me a little sad.

Blackledge and Nessler haven't been together for a while. Nessler is on CBS. Blackledge and McDonough are paired together now.

I don’t think Gary is rooting for anyone but good god he doesn’t shut up. He over obsesses about plays and tries to be the biggest part of the show at all times.

Fowler and Herbie are probably college football’s best in terms of broadcasting duos. Neither step over each other and both have good chemistry.

For me I really think CFB has lost many of their great duos with the over saturation of the sport on tv and each brand buying each other’s talent.

Yeah, he will obsess over a missed call that happens early in a game that ends up a blowout. A Texas 8&4 game comes to mind.

There are times when he does seem downright giddy when we are losing.

Thats my irritation of Gary. I think the better version of him is Tony Romo. But I don’t think Gary is anywhere as bad as Orvlosky or Brando. However I just don’t get the love for him that some see. But then again I like Herbie while many hate him.

But also I just hate CBS as a product as a whole because not every game needs to be at 2:30 and if you are going to be the SEC big game network then you need to take some crap or B listers too so everyone isn’t constantly forced to watch 11 am games every week.

I knew that...don't know what I was thinking about Nessler still being on ABC. I do think he does a great job.

I think Blackledge and McDonogh are a good team for sure.

It's interesting to me to see the differing opinions on Danielson. I personally love listening to him call a game, and think he has been in awe of the Alabama program and what Saban has built. It's also funny to hear my non-Alabama friends who think he's a Bama homer.

Regardless, I think Nessler/Danielson is the best combo in all of college football. Fowler gets a little animated at times as does Gus Whoever on Fox. Herbstreit just bothers me sometimes with how careful he has become in not being critical during a game. I like to hear a little criticism when it's warranted.

Joel Klatt is fantastic at what he does and think he's way better than Herbstreit.

Klatt is okay when he isn’t overselling the B1G hype train or going on a playoff rant I think the only funny thing he does is that he will literally argue with replay officials on air. But he is just okay for me. I guarantee you though many here will be cussing on September 10th if it is a close game with how he announces.

IDK Gary to me comes off like the typical Yankee knowologist at times and will obsess over plays that were done about 3-4 plays ago. His voice comes across as whiny and it just adds to the irritation. Some people like him but I don’t. But I’m not one who says he is actively rooting for a team or than he isn’t a good announcer. He isn’t for me.

Personally I believe the best announcers are southern or are from the center of the country. They tend to understand their audience and know what not to do without having a distracting voice. I would say there are exceptions like Al Michaels. But it’s generally true.

The BIG TV deal looks like a good one. Their biggest game each Saturday will remain the Big Noon kickoff in FOX. Which we will get to experience this year with the Texas game. Now they have a 2:30 kickoff on CBS and a night game on NBC after the ND game for their second and third games. Also, the SEC deal is not just a cable deal as it includes ABC over the air. Which means the best SEC game will likely get the night kickoff on ABC.

Completely forgot about ABC. I would imagine that means the big SEC game on Saturday night will feather Fowler/Herbie if they are still together by then.

Herbie is going to be a busy guy. He is going to be working the NFL on Prime game with Al Michaels on Thursday nights as well.

As an announcer, if every fan base thinks you're against their school and for your opponent, it probably means you're doing a pretty good job. I know several UGA, UT, and AU fans who can't stand to listen to Danielson when Alabama plays their team because they are convinced he is pro Alabama.

As fans, I think we hear what we want to hear - not always, but often. I think Danielson talks too much and is a nitpick about things that don't matter (Cody taking off his helmet, for example), so that's what I tend to hear from him. If he cut his number of words in half, he'd probably be the perfect announcer.
