I generally try to be positive, but you reap what you sow. Playing K-State at 12 (I am EST) on NYE is what we deserve. But, it is not what we should have. We should have beat LSU by 3 scores. We should have run the ball, and the clock on the last possession against UT. We should have made meaningful adjustments on both sides of the ball that would have allowed us to utilize the talent that we did and did not have this year. We should, realistically, be the team that the turds on ESPN, and every other show, are talking about not be punished by a loss in conference championship. CNS spoke about the fans need to cultivate a positive environment. Here is what I am positive about. If you bake a cake and it sucks, and then bake again with the same ingredients you are going to get the same sucky cake. If we fail to make the needed changes, I am positive that we will get the same disappointing results as we did this year. The question now is whether the dude, who is getting paid millions to be the dude, has enough fire, intestinal fortitude, etc. to have the uncomfortable conversations/moments to affect the culture change in this program once again. I personally think he does, but only the offseason will tell. If so, well, that is why he is the GOAT. If not, well, say hello to Bobby Bowden (loved him, too.) Anyway, I am not a pessimist, but I am a realist.

Back in the good old days when there were 15 bowl games (1978 is when I began watching), this was your usual basic lineup (central time zone):

Sugar Bowl and Cotton Bowl at 1 pm
Rose Bowl at 4 pm
Orange Bowl at 7 pm

(In 1964 - all of the non-Rose Bowl games began at 1pm and then the Rose was by itself).

Also - back then - both the Cotton and Orange Bowls had parades - and the game was played on New Year's Day UNLESS Jan 1 fell on a Sunday (as it did in 1984, for example), and then the games were moved to Monday.

In January 1981, the head of the Fiesta Bowl (a man named Bruce Skinner) learned that in the next season, ABC was moving the Sugar Bowl from 1 pm to prime time to go up against the Orange Bowl (which was on NBC). So Skinner went and got the approval of NBC and asked the NCAA to change the date of the Fiesta Bowl to NYD. They went ballistic - and the conferences and the Big Four Bowl Games raged against them - but their own attorneys advised them, "You'll lose." So the Fiesta Bowl moved to early afternoon IN PLACE OF the old Sugar Bowl time slot but on NBC, and the Sugar Bowl moved to prime time just in time for Dan Marino vs Herschel Walker.

Of course, that wasn't the first time the Sugar Bowl was in PRIME TIME because the 73 Sugar Bowl between Alabama and Notre Dame kicked off at 7 pm.

So it has from time to time been at night and then in the early afternoon.

I can't find start times from pre-TV era Sugar Bowls...but the Rose Bowl even then was a standard 445pm central kickoff. It's doubtful the Sugar Bowl ever started at 11 am back in the days of 2, 3, 10, or even 15 bowl games.

I'm guessing this is in part because 1/1 is on Sunday again this year - combined with the playoff games being that day and they don't want to split the audiences.
The Bama/Notre Dame Sugar Bowl in 1973 and the 1975 game were on New Year's Eve night

Nah. Even with a sugar bowl win this season is worse than all other Saban seasons except 2007, maybe on par with 2010.

2008 was a great season, the bowl game didn’t take away from that. The team clearly didn’t care about that game. We went down to the wire with the national champions.

2013 was a great season and would have been a 3 peat except for a fluke FG kick run back against Auburn. Again, the team clearly didn’t care about the Sugar Bowl and played like it. But had the playoff been in effect that year, we’d have been in and likely run the table.

2019 was a disappointing season but we lost to the eventual national champions and then to Auburn after we lost Tua.

2010 we lost 3 games but at the end showed we had what it took to dominate, and did the next 2 seasons.

This year, we lost to Tenn for the first time in 15yrs and a ok LSU team. We’ve had a horrible defense and a horrible offense, and the signs just aren’t there at the moment that the program will change enough to fix our flaws. Specifically both lines and the play calling and coaching on both sides.

None of these are really horrible seasons in the grand scheme of things, but this season has felt like the worst in a long time. We basically got by on sandlot play by our talented QB. This season doesn’t feel so much like a “what could have been”, but more like the air got let out of the ball. But maybe that’s just me.
If 2022 Alabama wins the Sugar Bowl they finish 11-2 and Ranked somewhere between 3rd and 5th and that would be a better finish than all of those seasons.

2008 - 6th with Two straight losses
2010 - 10th/11th with Three overall losses
2013 - 7th/8th with Two straight losses (AU and OU) and an AU Highlight Reel for Eternity
2019 - 8th

Though if you ask me which TEAMS are better regardless of the 2022 Sugar Bowl result?

I'd pick ALL FOUR of those to Beat 2022 Alabama Head to Head.

I'd only pick 2022 Alabama to beat 2007 Alabama and that is kind of sad but that's just how AWFUL BoB and Golding are and how badly they handicap this team.

Be sure to take some Pepto if you watch this game. ;)
Will any Bama fans be in attendance at the game. I'm sure this was a great season for Kansas State. After all, they won their conference TITLE. So, their fans will be there! Will they FILL the stadium with wildcats? This season was a disappointment for Bama fans! Hopefully, Bama FANS and Bama PLAYERS will show up!

Here's hoping that Michigan beats TCU by at least 50 and I'm NOT a Michigan fan. Is TCU the ONLY team EVER to NOT drop in the standings after a LOSS!??????? I think ESPN commentators used the word INTEGRITY referring to the CFP committee in not dropping them from #3. How does that reflect their INTEGRITY??????? Was it a lack of INTEGRITY? Alabama dropped when we barely lost at 10RC and at LSU! Ohio State dropped when they lost by 22 at HOME. 10RC dropped when lost to UGA and lost again Big Time to USCe! Clemsoning dropped when they lost and lost again. So, how does TCU not dropping when they lost reflect HIGH INTEGRITY? IMHO it does NOT!!!!!!!

Actually, I'm feeling like I did after the powers that be screwed Bama in 1966!!!!!!!

That could change if some players sit.
Is the expectation that some will? IMO the greatest impediment to winning the Sugar Bowl will be if the players don`t care ( never dreamed I would say that about Alabama football ). There`s no doubt who has the better talent........then again, there`s always the issue of who`s putting together the game plans!

On a separate note do not sleep on osu, they have a legitimate reasonable shot to beat jawjaw…jawjaw is very beatable and their d is no where nearly as good as last year…giving up 500yds passing to lswho is evidence of that

osu better passing o and better d than lswho

arguably, especially statically, meech and osu have by far the best rushing and passing offenses and total defenses in the b10 and also tops overall nationally

talk about tough and I assure you I am not upset but jawjaw is going to play a truly dynamic passing team with a really good d, unlike tenner, and a seriously good rushing team, even without their #1 rb heisman hopeful, with a top 3 d statistically

Looking for positives and searching for anything that makes me think jawjaw can be beat 😂😂😂.

jawjaw losing might be the only medicine for us not getting in and having a down year for us, well that and tcu getting in. tcu getting pounded would help too but not as much as jawjaw losing

If I had to pick the winner right now of the CFP, my pick would be tOSU. Beat UGA to lower their ARROGANCE level and beat a Michigan team that will destroy tcu by I hope 50 so that the CFP Committee can think about their horrendous decision!

This KSU team is good. Alabama needs Bryce to play to have a chance. If Young plays then Alabama wins, probably by a lot. If Young does not play, I would bet on KSU.

You do not practice enough leading up to a bowl to change who you are, and without Bryce this is a .500 team

I was joking about the Tennessee vs Clemson game and all the orange, not our game.

Kansas State is ranked #70 in team talent. In the last 4 recruiting cycles, Kansas State has brought in 0 5-star, 3 4-star, and 61 3-star players. As y'all know, Bama ranks #1 with 14 5-star, 59 4-star, and 11 3-star players. There is a chasm between the talent on these two teams, yet Bama is a 4.5 point favorite and Bama will probably need Bryce to win this game. I don't understand why Bama is not expected to just roll over these guys with or without Bryce. I don't understand why this game is not a Mack truck against a VW Bug.
