Some were even predicting us to get absolutely obliterated by auburn. Lord, the pessimism this year has been worse than it was even in the Shula years
But the vituperation against Gol*fish has been far better - and probably will get better yet.

Welp, I am prepared to get blasted but if you are a first-round pick you CAN NOT play in this game. The way the slotting is done and the rookie contracts are paid you just can not take the chance. The 12-team playoff will change some of this but I have no problem with young men trying to secure the best they can for themselves and their families. I also like that players on this team will get practice time and playing time if the opt-outs are leaving. This bowl game is about the extra practice and trying to get a feel for the next year.

I am ready for the abuse :)
I'm with you on on this. Nobody should be angry if Bryce and Will decide not to play. Nothing they do in this game either bad, or good will impact their draft status. If they do decide to play, we should give them props and hope they don't get hurt. Sugar Bowl on new year's eve? We should be thankful we're are able to play in this game with the product we've put on the field this year. Could've been better, but could have been so much worse.

I honestly don’t mind if guys opt out. Sadly as Saban predicted before the playoffs began bowl games don’t matter. I will watch the game, but don’t really care that much. I used to watch all the major bowl games now I just don’t care outside of the playoffs.

Bryce opting out is probably best for him, and Bama. It gives Milroe and Simpson the reps, and game experience on a traditionally big stage. I just hope if Bryce opts out both guys get significant snaps. It could really help the development next year and that’s what really counts not the bowl game. It’s sad to say the Sugar bowl doesn’t matter to me but it doesn’t.

That guy has some MAJOR dirt on Saban. Of that I am convinced. No other way to explain him not only still being employed, but getting nothing but the highest accolades from Saban.

Did I dream it or is Gold linked to the DC job in Colorado?

Will any Bama fans be in attendance at the game. I'm sure this was a great season for Kansas State. After all, they won their conference TITLE. So, their fans will be there! Will they FILL the stadium with wildcats? This season was a disappointment for Bama fans! Hopefully, Bama FANS and Bama PLAYERS will show up!

Here's hoping that Michigan beats TCU by at least 50 and I'm NOT a Michigan fan. Is TCU the ONLY team EVER to NOT drop in the standings after a LOSS!??????? I think ESPN commentators used the word INTEGRITY referring to the CFP committee in not dropping them from #3. How does that reflect their INTEGRITY??????? Was it a lack of INTEGRITY? Alabama dropped when we barely lost at 10RC and at LSU! Ohio State dropped when they lost by 22 at HOME. 10RC dropped when lost to UGA and lost again Big Time to USCe! Clemsoning dropped when they lost and lost again. So, how does TCU not dropping when they lost reflect HIGH INTEGRITY? IMHO it does NOT!!!!!!!

Actually, I'm feeling like I did after the powers that be screwed Bama in 1966!!!!!!!
I expect a lot of purple in that stadium. Namely, because they are thrilled with where they landed, and think they have a shot to beat Alabama. I'd agree with them. The other reason is, well, have you BEEN to Kansas before? Those people are looking to party on NYE. I can't blame them. Everyone in America likely needs a respite from the past 3 years.

Someone in purple is getting arrested in New Orleans in the wee hours of 1/1/2023.....:D

There is talk of Prime hiring him as DC. Lord, I would consider that the greatest Christmas present ever. The only way to ever be rid of him is for him to leave on his own. Saban is NEVER going to fire him
Not CPG...one of our assistants. I would assume that CNS and Deion discussed this on an AFLAC set or two...

“Realist” is just an “Optimistic”definition of a “Pessimist”. ;)
I don't know, CajunCrimson. I'm considered a "pessimist" by many people who know me, and then I get to detail to them why I have that dark cloud covering me everywhere I go. My realism is colored by a lot of facts and past history. I'm right way more often than I want to be. I take no victory lap when I am right.

I'm probably the worst "told ya so" that you will ever meet. Send cards to my wife. :D

The reason the Sugar Bowl is being played at 11:00 on NYE is because the NFL has games on NYD. In order to get the bowl games played, they had to slot the times weird.

And I'll be at the Superdome cheering on my boys in crimson with my Airman son and his girlfriend, who will be home from Guam for a few weeks. Say what you want about a disappointing season, but I'm going to relish the opportunity to watch the Tide with my son for the first time in three years.

I have seen no talk of Sanders higher Pete. There is some rumbling about Sanders looking at other Bama D staff.

I'd be OK with Bryce and Will just playing the first half or not at all. It's time to get an early start on next season. Let the young guys get their reps in a big game.

Whether or not the Sugar Bowl is a big game for the fans, it absolutely should be a huge game for the players.

I'll be watching and pulling for the Tide just like always.

There is a part of me that wants guys to opt out so the young guys can sort of take over and get a head start on that.

But there is another part of me that wants guys like Bryce and Will to go out on one last high note, and take a certain kind of ownership for this program and their chapter of it.
They were voted permanent team captains. How could someone accept that kind of award from their teammates and then abandon them for the bowl game? Remember, this will be the last game that a lot of guys get to play wearing that uniform. You are going to just abandon them?

Both Will and Bryce are going to get paid handsomely no matter what happens in that game - even if they get injured. Their draft stock will not go up because they get a better 40 time or bench press more reps, so they do not need time to prepare for the combine.

Wishful thinking on my part, LOL. Sanders has more sense than to hire Golden boy. Besides, Saban would never let that happen anyway. When it comes Golding, that is Saban's boy and he ain't going NOWHERE

Because modern society has redefined what that means (your first paragraph). I do NOT agree with this redefinition, by the way.

Another issue is that these bowl games have become a complete joke apart from the playoff. Now part of that is the players opting out. But that's not all of it. These are match ups people are not interested in and will not tune into. They are sparsely attended. I have no clue how some of these games even make money.

The Super Dome seats, what, 72k? I'll bet you there will not be more than 50k in attendance.

I agree with your last paragraph and can think the only reason someone like Will and Bryce skip the game is simply wanting to avoid an injury that would set back their rookie year. Yes, they will get paid, but they do not want this game to basically be something that knocks them out of actually playing that first year.

Finally, all of this said, I accept this is the new reality and so I look for ways to spin it to my advantage. One of the potential positives to players like Will and Bryce opting out is that backups get a chance to get a jumpstart on being the leaders of next year. Now this is a bit tricky for Alabama especially at QB. Just who would be the QB next year? Milroe? Simpson? A portal-in?

Heck, it's not a clean shot either way. Hopefully the stars do play, don't get hurt, and dominate one last time.

But they won't get that advantage because these lousy coaches will still be not helping them improve. Until the coaching staff flips, nothing will begin to improve. This game is pretty much meaningless in preparation for 2023.
