With UTx and OU joining the SEC, what does the conference schedule now look like?

Not to stir the pot, but Capitalism has been slowing wrecking the College Football game for years. I much prefer the days where the College Game tilted more toward rivalry schools than dollars per eyeball. I'll take my punishment for halcyon statements offline. :)
As I see it, the issue is not capitalism but rather the imperative of making FBS football maximize its net contribution to athletic departments in order to fund all the non-revenue sports mandated by Title IX. I am NOT expressing an opinion on Title IX or on non-revenue sports; just saying that the inescapable and unintended consequence of Title IX is the need for any college sport that makes money, to make it in abundance...

Does Texas & Oklahoma have any input into what the schedule will be and do they vote on the it once they join the conference or is it only the current members?
I would be surprised if they were not involved in discussions. They may not have full voting power until joining officially, but I'm sure their input is being allowed.

In the end, though, I think they are going to be about like any other member. They will want the easiest schedule possible, so long as they keep their rivalry games. And for OU and Texas, all that really matters to them is their game against each other. If it is the 3 permanent opponents model, they'll probably give Oklahoma the trio of Texas, Missouri, and either Texas A&M or Arkansas. Texas will likely get Oklahoma, Arkansas, and probably someone like Ole Miss.

Texas A&M has been adamant that they do not want to play Texas because they are truly the whiniest, most pathetic program in the conference. Oh I forgot the blue font. But not really. And it seems the SEC is willing to grant their pitiful request, so that game is likely not going to be an annual contest.

I can't understand why the SEC WOULD NOT want TAMU vs. Texas to be an annual game. It would create/renew a great traditional series that many people would view similarly to Bama/Barn, Bama/UT, Georgia/UF etc. It would be great TV game!

Who cares what the crybabies say.

Oh I hope the SEC forces them to play. In fact, I hope Texas overshadows A&M in every way possible after they enter the league.

How they (A&M) reacted to Texas joining forever turned me against them. Of course, I also hate Texas. Just a little less than A&M.

That and then after how they acted after they finally upset us a couple of years ago. It is kinda funny that they've fallen in the same trap as almost every other school in the conference thinking if they can beat Bama/Saban they can be King. But of course, what usually happens is a win against Bama cost you a couple of other games typically.

And concerning Texas, I'd rather see Texas win than A&M any day (of course if one HAS to win).

wait till we start playing Texas on a regular basis. Their fans are far worse that A&M. Your hatred of all things Orange will burn even deeper

Their fans don’t have anything on Georgia and Florida fans. Haven’t met many Aggie fans but going to Kyle field once they are probably the nicest and classiest fans at a ball game

They will take several steps back. I would say Texas will too, but, they’re already back there.
i think it really depends on the setup. I just think Oklahoma is a longer project after being gutted by Riley and picking a horrible replacement at the worst time.

I think if Texas is given the a light pool of sec opponents then they could probably succeed.

I don't know. Certainly, Nebraska is an example of a former powerhouse that may have slipped into eternal mediocrity but the Sooners, like Bama, are way too into the sport to allow their program to fail for too long.

I'm trying to figure out what specific leverage they would have.

Oklahoma is the Elena Ceausescu of the B12. They follow along attached to Nicolae (Texas), who bellows and yells but can't do much, either. (For those of you that this flew right over your heads, I'll use an analogy you understand: Oklahoma is Scrappy Doo - more guts and courage than Texas but still suffering from Stockholm Syndrome).

"If you don't do it our way, we're going to the Big Ten"???

Is that the card they have to play?

"We're Texas, we'll go Independent."
Networks: "You're the same idiots who broke up a conference over a TV network that has also been a disaster. I mean, you guys are like getting saved from a cheap seat on "Titanic" with a prime seat on "the Hindenburg. OH THE HUMANITY!"

Not Nebraska level of implosion, but more closer to a Miami level of drop. I don’t see them bullying people like they are accustomed to and it will take a lot of overhaul to get back to where they want to. But constantly competing for conference and national titles I think is done for awhile for them.

I would give OU better odds than Nebraska but that's mostly because Nebraska's rise was so dependent upon circumstances that were primitive and never to be repeated. OU was doing well long before Nebraska and has rebuilt it again.

But this one ain't gonna be easy now, either.

At least their weather is better.

Back to the scheduling does anyone know if the permanent teams they were floating on our future schedules were set in stone yet? I know Saban had some things to say about it. Surely they wouldn’t give us the toughest schedule every year and act like it’s fine….I mean one of the reasons they supposedly quit the divisions was for scheduling equity…

Oklahoma will always have access to great recruiting, but like any power, they are not immune to mismanagement.

What is going to get them now is the depth of the SEC. And for any Sooners who would scoff at that, frankly, it’s going to get us all at this point.
