Good grief! Jalen Milroe is a good quarterback. If he were not a good quarterback, he would not be top contender for the starting job at Alabama. He will be fine! I'm not concerned. You and others talk about him like he can't play at all. At least give him a chance, before you go bashing him as a weak spot!
Jalen Milroe is a good qb when he proves himself to be.
Now, maybe he comes in and blows up and shows that he is a great qb. I hope he does. I hope he takes us to a national championship.
Why just the hurahh for JM and defending him? What have you (or anybody else) seen any different than the rest of us who have watched him?
I'm for whoever wins the job because they give us the best option to win. Nothing more and certainly nothing less.

Based on Saban’s comments yesterday, I think he’s pretty settled in on Milroe starting Saturday. I’m not saying that’s good or bad. I’m saying that’s how I interpret Saban’s words.

When Saban mentioned “significant” improvement for Milroe, and was silent on the other QBs, I heard that as a message to Milroe, intended to boost his confidence.

Whether Milroe actually has made significant improvement, I don’t know. Based on reports on the 8/19 scrimmage, and assuming he has in fact gotten a lot better, the light must have come on in the 10 days since then.

We’ll get an inkling Saturday, though only an inkling. I seriously doubt that MTSU will provide the level of competition needed to tell for sure.

Regardless, after a month of pre-season camp and 5 days before the first game, it does no good to publicly remind your Game 1 starter of his shortcomings.
He was specifically asked about Milroe, that's why he didn't bring up the other QBs. That's why he spoke at length about him specifically.

Most are not defending him. Have you read these threads? But it's become the unofficial word, that he's the starter. So there's some positive talk.

The question was to you and why all the support you're throwing around for JM.
Why such confidence in? Especially based off past performance.
I don't look at it as JM being the "starter" this Saturday. He's just first man up in the audition.

I don't think you are wrong, but he's got to acquit himself of his poor play thus far. Everybody believes he needs to improve to be a championship-level quarterback.

The charges against him are mostly fair, especially the ones regarding ball security, inability to go thru progressions and his struggles to throw underneath routes and touch passes accurately (the thing that scares me the most).

I don't think anybody on this board is rooting against him, but if he is the starter these are the things we will be watching to see if he's improved.

With Jalen , it is simple. Stop the turnovers , and experience and practice will allow him to work through the other stuff. I think the turnovers are the things that gives most of us cause for pause.

If he had played at Tech, he would have had huge numbers and people would have thought totally different thoughts about him. Of course, they would also have said that he was a "system QB". No, he didn't have a rocket for an arm, but he knew where the ball should go and he could get it there on time.
I think he was only a three star recruit, though, so many people are probably correct about him not getting recruited by us with Saban at the helm.
GMac was never the most talented QB. But his big strength was knowledge and leadership.

This thread reminded me of this thread, Alabama QB competition article (ALL QB posts here, please) It was discussion about Tua and Jalen.. and how bad Jalen was performing.. Many of you didn't like the idea of rotating QBs that year... and many wished Mac Jones to get some starts in. Many of you wished stated Jalen stared down his receivers and always ran too much. Look what happened: Tua and Jalen is in NFL.. Mac is in NFL. Everything is going to work itself out for Jalen Milroe and Simpson.
Not sure what you are trying to say. Every criticism of Hurts at that time was 100% legitimate, and it almost cost us the NC and did cost us a game. It’s great that he developed better after no longer being the starter (saved us in the following year’s SECC) and at Oklahoma and in the NFL. But at the time he wasn’t the best choice.

I never thought Jalen's passes were bad. He always seemed to pass ok. But he got where he simply wouldn't pass, when he should have. Instead, he'd take off running. And defenses knew it.
It became super predictable. One read, drift right, run right, fail to throw it away and step out of bounds taking a 5yd loss. Rinse, repeat.

I would love to see Milroe play really well and lead us to another championship. But I would also love to see Simpson or Buchner play really well and lead us to another championship.

Bottom line - I don't have a favorite in this race. I just want to see one of them step up and take charge of the offense and have a great season.
