Almost every play on offense was a broken play. Did not feel like Alabama football. Saban has replaced starting QBs before--not sure why he could not see what the entire football world saw tonight. It was a disservice to Milroe and the rest of the players not to give this team the best chance to win.Worst QB play in terms of the ability to control the pocket. Run first, he probably had 150 yards and opened up the passing game. Sark knew what we all knew. Stop the run and deep ball, you cut off Milroe. Too easy . And next teams will do the same . Saban might have to start that true freshman qb baller before this is over
It would have mattered, respectfully to Milroe… If the qb is looking to throw first, anticipate where receivers will be open. You can get the ball out quick and make up for a for a few of those busted plays, giving other guys a chance to make a play. Instead he waited for them to be open while staring them down, or ran around and looked for a lane to run. Terrible qb play tonight, no ifs ands or buts about it.Milroe was pressured all night. It wouldn't have mattered much who was behind center. The OL play was sporadic. Real bad at times. The receivers were struggling to get separation. Pointing at only Milroe is unfair. Many of the problems we saw are fixable. We have a cupcake next week. So we have 2 weeks to clean up. Texas played a good game. They're a good team, and likely practiced months for Bama.
I was thinking that Saba was going to put in another QB, but then he threw that TD so how could he pull him after that?So first, why didn't CNS try another QB? I think the obvious answer is we've put all our eggs in the JM basket. I think the staff got suckered into thinking "MTSU JM is the real JM" when it's not. I'm speculating, but I suppose JM got 90% of the Texas game snaps and there was no "backup plan" if he didn't play well. That, or Buckner and Simpson are just hot garbage. I think it's the former!
There are multiple things to fix. It's true. But if you have a QB problem that is a serious issue. Our greatest concern about JM's game against MTSU has come true. He can ball out against inferior teams but better teams that can scheme to try to make him beat them from the pocket and make 3rd down conversions will cause our offense to bog down.
If we are to return to a power run game that controls the LOS it will take a better effort from the line, but Jalen is not the type of QB this will work with. He's not a GMac or AJ that can complete a 5-10 yard short pass to keep a drive going. Matter of fact, there were at last 3 or 4 passes he luckily completed last night that could have been INTs just the same. Every time he threw a short pass I held my breath!
Someone mentioned even our successful plays were mostly broken plays. Yeah, that's right. The two TDs that were called back because of penalties were both broken plays and I know for fact one of them was a lineman down field because it appeared that JM was taking off running.
If JM could suddenly become Jalen Hurts this approach might work. But he's not anywhere near that kind of talent to lead this offense now.
With all due respect, good Sir, I disagree. That's exactly the kind of game BY excelled at.I'm not sure Bryce could have done much better last night considering the way the OL got handled.
Yes. Basically Sark was playing chess and JM was playing duck, duck, goose. Some of the OL‘s problems were UT knowing Milroe wasn’t going to beat them passing. Makes a huge difference when a defense has that advantage. The true freshman LT, Proctor , will be good one day. He will continue to progress. I don’t see Milroe progressing past his level of play last night, especially against good teams.
I agree with this. Sark knew he was no threat to pass so they could turn up the heat all night on him and the running backs. Milroe had 4 or 5 completions that could have just as easily been picks. Just a rough night. It would have mattered, respectfully to Milroe… If the qb is looking to throw first, anticipate where receivers will be open.
