I have no inside information whatsoever, but it looks like some of the team mailed it in on Saturday because Buchner was named the starter (obviously a bad decision). By the time the hook was used and he was pulled in place of Simpson, they had floundered around to the point of almost costing us the game. Simpson at least showed some command and poise even if he didn't play great.
Regardless of the other multitude of issues in the Texas game, Milroe's pick six sealed our fate, and it was a terrible read from the beginning. He has shown he can't read the defense, locks in on one receiver, and can't throw slants or other intermediate throws with any consistency. He is the epitome of the baseball player that may hit you 30 HRs but will strike out 100 times, most of those with runners in scoring position, and leads to the team losing games they shouldn't. He is a great athlete and from most indications, a great young man, but being our main QB just isn't working...
