This isn’t to beat up on Milroe, he played a phenomenal game, it’s for everyone that tries to say that Rees or Saban have some blame on the play. This was 100% on Milroe and the coaches had nothing to do with this call. It was just a young quarterback getting caught up in the moment and acting without thinking. It was the right read but the wrong decision at the time. Even the greats like Tom Brady made those unconscious mistakes too.

Milroe:
"That play still hurts me to this day," Milroe said. "That wasn't a smart play by me. I should've just handed the ball off. That was not part of the play, at all. I should've just handed the ball off. That's something I can build off of and learn off of. That's not part of the play. I should've handed the ball off."

Saban:

"Jalen throws the ball when the game is over," Saban said on his postgame television show, The Nick Saban Show, when listing self-inflicted errors in the game. "The only reason we were going to run a play is we were hurrying up to run a play because we didn't know if they would review the knee being down on the conversion. Otherwise we're kneeling on the ball. He throws the ball out there and stops the clock.

Thanks. Pretty much what I suspected. It was a hurry up trying to make sure the play doesn’t get reviewed in case Jase’s knee was down when making the catch.
it was the right decision to go hurry up, but an awful decision to throw the ball.

No need to rush. You can bet if the replay booth thought for one second that they could have gotten away with calling Jase down before the next snap the refs would have stopped the play and reversed it. Jase was clearly not down in the replay.
I wouldn’t trust any SEC crew to get it right these days. I would have gone hurry if there was even the slightest possibility it could be reviewed and reversed. This crew had already made two highly questionable calls (blind side block and roughing the passer) and a third down pass earlier in the game when a TAMU receiver “trapped” the ball that never got reviewed.

Hurry up, yes. But run it or take a knee.

He’ll learn from it. It could be worse and we have a bone headed coach like Miami.

It was obviously a bone head mistake because of the situation..

But I appreciate the accountability.

I can’t help but to really like Jalen because every time he speaks he displays Leadership.
IMO, he did last year as well. Anyone who doesn’t like him has a personal problem; and his skills at QB are improving.

This situation should have been covered by the coaches way before it came up. Managing the clock at that stage is all important. That he even thought throwing the ball was an option means someone did not coach him on what to do...there's a lot going through a young man's head at this stage.
I agree, there is a ton going on.
I'm sure he is coached that if a Bama receiver i lined up and there is no DB outside the hash to cover him, it is an automatic audible. You get him the ball. In a normal game situation.
One-hopping the ball to a wide-open receiver, however, is not acceptable, under any situation. If he throws a catchable ball and the receiver picks up ten useless yards, but keeps the clock running, not many would care about this play.

Jase’s knee down? Are we talking about when he picked up the 3 and 7… they showed it multiple times and when he secured the ball both knees were off the ground. As to the throw it was a bad throw but it wasn’t a dumb move. No one was covering 11 if the throw was better we win by 13 not 6. Now the smart move was to take a knee and kill the clock. But there was no doubt Jase picked up the first down.

Yes but the players on the field were not sure about the play. We saw the replay but they didn’t so they were in hurry up mode to snap the ball so it couldn’t be overturned.

Initially his knee was down before he bobbled it up to his feet. There is no way anyone could know on the side line or on the field if he was down or not.
