Alabama QBs in 2024

You need an elite QB to win....JM isnt elite in how he reads the game...great athlete but he isnt the answer. I'd like to see others who have a better understanding of the schemes get a chance

He's not Lamar. Lamar is a freak. Lamar is a more fluid runner with more wiggle and also can make crazy off platform throws.

This isn't me hating on Milroe, Lamar is just special

Well Milroe isn’t illusive either. He is fast but not illusive.

I think anyone comparing him to Lamar really doesn’t understand the difference between the two. It’s like the dumb Vince Young comparisons.

Milroe is a running back that has a big arm. He really needs to learn how to read if he is ever going to be something better. He could do it but it’s something he has to put in the time to do it. I’m just not sold that he can be Penix or Lamar.

Simpson is more than likely transferring leaving Milroe, Lonergan, Sayin and Holstein. My guess is Milroe and Lonergan will be the two batting for any type of real QB competition. Milroe needs to watch a crap load of tape this offseason, get plugged into the best QB coach he can find and get better at reading defenses, pre-snap reads, and decision making during plays.

Yeah Simpson sounds like he has one foot in portal already. Holstein could go as well.

Given CNS’s history, it will take an utter unworldly spring and fall for Sayin or Lonergan to overtake JM. Which kind of concerns me.

Betcha Saban has already told him exactly where to improve ... the same stuff that drew the competition out so long is what bit him tonight.

Basic QB-ing. Do you know what defense they're in? Can you read the field quickly? Can you run where the play is called to go? There are probably hundreds of QBs on rosters right now who can do those things instinctively. Difference is few (or none) have the big-play ability and athleticism as he does. If he can just add the basics, he'll be unstoppable. But it feels concerning to expect him to learn in 6-9 months what almost every QB is expected to start with
This Spring we need to take a hard look at Sayin.
I think he could developed and be the starter.

Right that's what I meant by more fluid runner with more wiggle

The players also revolted (along with OC) when they had a #2 QB named Tua who was a dart thrower.

All four of those guys went to the NFL because Tua could hit the key hole.

So, if JM doesn't improve and there's a guy who can hit them in time and in the numbers it'll get real interesting next year.
If Milroe was the starting QB when they played here, a whole bunch of Alabama receivers who were 1st round draft picks wouldn’t have sniffed the 1st round, because their numbers would have been mediocre. Receivers are at the mercy of a QB who can actually get them the ball.

Waiting to transfer just really isn’t an option the way they have it now. It could cost them spring practice and potentially millions in NIL deals. That’s a reality and why many of us are just spent over the whole system.
There's no doubt about that. However, the deadline is tomorrow, and they haven't announced a decision yet, and we thought there was gonna be another game to play, so it seems like they would have announced already if they were for sure gonna leave.

If Milroe doesn't improve in the many aspects of his game that he needs to improve in.....and still wins the job again next season.....knowing we have a kid like Sayin sitting there.......I'll get roasted for saying it, but we won't win a title with Milroe unable to play the QB position the way it has to be played. He was completely overwhelmed with what Michigan was doing to him, he had no answer.

I think Milroe will be the starter next season. Had we not made the playoff then the QB spot would be wide open, but since we did get there Saban is going to go with the experienced guy. The only way that would change is if Sayin instantly looks like a Heisman candidate in Spring camp.

Watching Penix play reminds me of how much fun it is to watch the offense when you’ve got a great QB. You know, like we had last year. And the year before. And the year before. And the year before. And….

It’s not that JM isn’t a QB, he is and he’s an effective one. It’s that he’s an effective QB at the expense of all the other weapons on offense. CNS always talks about having a point guard at QB, JM is a shooting guard.

I think the shooting guard versus point guard comparison pretty much means he's not really effective at what he's supposed to do, which is get the ball into the hands of your playmakers.

So basically Milroe is in the wrong system....because we've got way too much talent around him for him to be THE weapon.
