Who is Saban's replacement?

Lanning on Pat McAfee show said he was watching a movie with his son when his phone was blowing up saying he was in Alabama. Take it for what its worth.

Well, WE have no idea what's been happening - all we have is reports from people who want you to click on their article / tweet.

It could be that we end up with someone out of left field, or there may be something in the works that's been in motion for days, weeks, even months.

We fans need to take a breath and stop worrying about it.
I understand what you’re saying, as well as the truth behind it…but do you realize who you’re talking to?

You’d have more success herding cats through a dog show than convincing people around here to be calm and rational 🥸

I would start by asking what problems arose at Clemson. Mind you, I predicted those problems years ago so I think I have an idea and it's not all Dabo.

What issues did he have with NIL, with the portal, and what would he be able to do differently at Alabama?

The guy won 10+ games from 2011-2022.

People are saying this guy is the worst possible hire, but Kiffin and Sark both of whom got fired due to poor job performance (and other issues) are better? Dabo had a bad season and still won 9 games.

I think I posted the wrong number earlier.

Dabo is 170-43.
Kiffin and Sark combined are 166-98.

It's not even close. This might not be Bill Curry vs Bobby Bowden but it's close enough to bring up.

and dabo lost more games in the last 4 years in the ACC than Saban has in the last 8 years in the SEC

not to mention Clemson is leaps and bounds better than 95% of the ACC in terms of talent. The talent gap closes in the SEC

He’s my agent, and I don’t even have an agent.

He represents most anyone who’s anyone it seems.

On a side note, Trace Armstrong has done well in the agent business, if this is the same Trace Armstrong who played football.
Yes, played at John Carrol High School and Florida

I wouldn't count on DeBoer. WIth the Seahawks job coming open, I suspect he is the top target to replace Pete Carroll. Bad timing on all of this.

Joel Klatt is saying he would be surprised if it isn't Kaleb DeBeor. Supposedly, DeBoer changed agents to Jimmy Sexton.

I hope and pray you are wrong. As detail oriented as CNS is it's almost impossible to think there isn't a plan in place.
But, But, But, having a plan in place (which could be the case) and having it result in securing the chosen coach is two different things. I say that because top rated coaches with winning programs have to be thinking why in the world would I want to follow a coaching legend. Coaching security and building a resume is important. With that said, I only see two proven top performers that might be willing to take that chance: Dabo and Kiffin. I'm not so confident that Dabo could have success, but Kiffin could because he knows the ropes, a great recruiter and has proven that he can utilize the transfer portal. Granted, he has baggage which is a concern. Otherwise, I think we might end up with a lesser known younger guy that has good potential and is willing to take on the challenge. A big paycheck for such a coach can be persuasive.

I could name 100 worse hires, literally.

On paper you can certainly make that argument and you wouldn’t be wrong.

But he has shown that he can’t adapt to the changing CFB landscape nor can he navigate staff turnover.

He hasn’t lost less than 3 games in 3 straight years in the weakest P5 conference.

I just don’t think he could hack it in the SEC or at Bama.

I’d say there are a Dozen better candidates at least.

Is Smart ready to take the job?

This isn't a perfect world so there won't be a perfect candidate. But comparing anyone to Saban is going to make that coach look bad in comparison. Dabo lost 12 games in the past 4 years, clearly he needs to right the ship (although to reiterate I predicted NIL being an issue for Clemson).

Kiffin lost 15 games at USC in four years though, and USC was absolutely loaded. We're also comparing what appears to be a down point in a career to other coach's peaks. For instance, in the previous 4 years, Dabo only lost 4 games!

Bear Bryant once lost 15 games over 4 years mid-career at Alabama. Every hire I see being brought up is a risk.

Dabo needs to adapt to the changing landscape
Kiffin needs to be good Kiffin and not bad Kiffin (he also lost 15 games the past four years).
Sark has been a head coach ten years and won double digits once!
The closest DeBoer has been to the southeast was Indiana and he has no history of recruiting well.
Norvell has 17 losses (in four years) in the soft ACC, with more fertile recruiting territory than Clemson. Also he couldn't get his team to show up for a bowl game.

And... that's the list of the best candidates that might be in play, right?

Interesting - second former player who says it's already a done deal...

Well, only names I can think of that would shock the world would be Bill Belichick or Kirby Smart, heh.

I'd throw someone like DeMeco in there. Obv the players are excited about the name. I could see him being one to get them excited. Someone who people think we have no shot geting.

I will say I think the majority of us are handling this transition fairly well.

Probably because we have been expecting it to happen at any time.

We’ve had some form of a ‘who replaces CNS’ type of thread several years in a row now because we knew it was coming sooner than later.

There is also less anxiety because CNS built a great foundation for the next incoming HC.

Things are a LOT better now than when CNS arrived and for that I’m super thankful.
