Who is Saban's replacement?

At this point, this has been a complete air ball from Byrne. If people like Tommy Rees are actual candidates.

Its also very clear that our top options said no, which again is not a good thing or a good look.
It seems to me that there is something more to this sudden depature than the reasons announced. It is difficult to imagine that Alabama, literally one of the top 3-4 programs in the country would end up looking like those teams who fire their coach without any replacement in mind. It says that Byrne and the President had their eyes off the ball for some time.

There is a lot more to be considered in the ways to organize to run a major professional sports program versus attempting to run it the same way it was run in 1950.

Anyway there are a number of very bright coaches in college football than the small list of names that have emerged so far.

I think the mods should add a new metric to the dashboard - call it the Eeyore Score. Once you get so many Eeyore points you have to take the Eeyore avatar for a month.

Eeyore's are people too. We need them so we can counter them.

as for the search ...

There has to be due diligence, negotiating through an agent, background checks, approvals, etc etc etc. We absolutely don't want to hire a guy and find out his middle name is Mike Price.

No, its clear we missed on YOUR and the MEDIA'S top choice....none of us know who Byrne's top choice is

Again we will never know the list. And I am 100% positive we will get told when the hire is made, this was the guy we wanted all along. There will always be people that see things thru crimson glasses, but I'd bet if we throw some truth serum in a drink, wed get told we missed our top 3

That was clearly Lanning
Thing is - we have not heard about any contract extension or raise that Lanning has gotten. It's plausible that he just used the forum to promote Oregon and we never even called him, or Byrne had gauged his interest prior to retirement and got the sense that he wasn't interested. We will never know what transpired. This is not 2006. This is Byrne's show with participation from CNS and probably utilizing Sexton. 2006 was a bit of a circus with boosters and ex-players activity pressing and leaking. This is just a much more professional environment than it was then.

You’re sounding like an Auburn fan.

Think recruiting is already in tank. I expect a mass exodus into the portal. Deboer or any name that wasnt at the top of the list isnt going to swoon people back. These kids came to play for the GOAT.
Well, I hope you are wrong about that. Nobody knows at this point. But, with Saban hanging around to help with the transition, I would like to think that he can help to keep most of them in place. Of course, a lot hangs on who the new coach is and how he presents himself to the team. Yes, he will not be able to keep all of them, but some are going to utilize the portal, even if Saban had not retired.

Again, thats just what you think. You and no one else knows the truth

I love how all of these guys have said nothing until today and/or last night.

I thinks thats why the report yesterday of Saban in the office calling recruits. Obviously they are going to get pressured hard into leaving. And if the new coach isnt what they consider a good hire, its the perfect excuse for some of these kids to leave. Hopefully its a homerun.

Also something to think about. if our new HC is deboer, all the washington kids can portal themselves. So it'll be interesting.
