Who is Saban's replacement?

Well, I hope you are wrong about that. Nobody knows at this point. But, with Saban hanging around to help with the transition, I would like to think that he can help to keep most of them in place. Of course, a lot hangs on who the new coach is and how he presents himself to the team. Yes, he will not be able to keep all of them, but some are going to utilize the portal, even if Saban had not retired.

I think schools are very short sighted to "just hire someone quick" to save "recruiting." Guys are gonna leave for more $$$ or fame or whatever it is they're looking for no matter who is hired. Get the right guy up front who can coach whoever stays and whoever remains committed.

Guys who want to leave can go.

At least that's how I think about it.

I love how all of these guys have said nothing until today and/or last night.
Waiting for the call that never came - knowing that once the announcement is made it would be a bit anti-climactic to step up and say "I was never interested in the job".

The only line of thinking I can possibly imagine with Rees is the “seamless transition” a la Lincoln Riley at OU and Ryan Day at Ohio State. Neither had HC experience nor a particularly lengthy resume, but were successful coordinators under the ultra-successful previous HC.

I’m not advocating for Rees, but if he’s seriously being considered that’s the only way it happens.
That's true. Kirby has also done very well as a first time head coach. I think Day and Smart and Lanning and Dabo are all considered top coaches right now, and aren't they all first time head coaches?

Wow! Some of y'all need to push the keyboard away and click on "Shutdown"

I do not care about the 72 hour timeline.
I do not care what the latest hot name is.
I want GB & CNS to get this right.
If there's anyone who can create positivity in this transition it's Nick Saban.
Recruiting and the portal WILL BE A THING no matter the hire but it will be less painful with CNS still in the building.

if they approached him before he applied for the portal, that's tampering

everyone tampers. And its only tampering if the coaches do so. Players, friends, family members, etc are all legal to talk.

Its really this easy: Hey coach, Bond is out if saban retires we have any interest in him, coach back to player well we are a few WR short, and are looking at portal guys.. player calls bond to tell him hey we got a spot here for you. and totally legal.

I wouldn't be so sure about that. We have no idea if Dan Lanning was a top 1-3 choice by Byrne. He was by US, fans on a message board. But it doesn't mean he was by Byrne. The guy is 37 years old, has only been a head coach for two years. Compared to DeBoer, who is 49 years old and whose head coaching resume looks like this:

So why would it be a given that Dan Lanning would by higher up on Byrne's short list than DeBoer?
He only beat Lanning twice, and got where Saban, Sark, and Smart couldn't get to this year. It's not like he has playoff experience either...

Geeze, man. 🙄

But you better have a really good paper trail to prove that's what happened.............
