The “New” Alabama Offense Under DeBoer/Grubb

CKD started Penix as a freshman, I'm not certain Sayin won't be the guy next year.

CKD is not going to start his Alabama career with 1/2 a play book because his QB can't read defense. All the QB's need to learn the play book but reading defense and making quick decisions comes easier to some and not at all for others.
Didn't Wash have a package for another QB that usually run the ball?

If DeBoer can't fix the problem we could be left with a couple of Freshmen. I was hoping for more competition to see if our other QBs are close to running the DeBoer Offense. I'm looking for the Fallback options if Milroe still can't read defenses.

Uneducated opinion here, but CKD would be unwise to just toss Milroe into the gutter because he doesn’t “fit his system”. I can’t recall the source right away, but CKD I think was quoted as saying he had worked with mobile QBs in the past. Milroe isn’t chopped liver, he accounted for 3,300 yards and 36 touchdowns last season.

I don’t know how it will play out, but some of y’all act like Milroe should either transfer out or change positions and I think that’s very premature.

I think CKD will for sure play the best player at the spot - just no guarantee that it won’t end up being Milroe.

Regardless of how the season began, Milroe turned things around enough to get Heisman consideration. That's pretty good with an O coordinator that didn't want him and didn't call plays that utilized his strengths for a majority of the season.

GT also talked about all the reads and decisions the QB has to make. In 23 Rees had to take the most simple reads out of JMs hands because he wasn't getting it correct.

I don't see Milroe as some here do. Some here have been against him since 2022, and have not let up. He has some issues for sure, but are correctable. BoB did nothing to help, and there was no time during the 2023 season, as game prep took up the time. I think DeBoer sees great potential with Milroe, and he and Grubb work with him. But it hasn't been near as bad as is portrayed here. Milroe has played well, leading the team to defeat Auburn and winning the SEC beating Georgia. Then into the playoff. I honestly don't believe Simpson could have done that. I mean, he did well enough to be in the Heisman talk. Perfect? No, he does have some issues to correct. Like quickly finding his reciever and throwing the ball. Part of the problem was the inability of the OL to protect. I think Huff solves that in DeBoer's offense. I really hope DeBoer and Grubb work their magic with Milroe. He can really be fun to watch.

that's true for some post snap stuff, but has ZERO to do with pre-snap and at snap reads. In fact, much of the pressure that the OL gave up later in the season, once Procter got his feet under him, were things that JM should have seen pre-snap, and been able to account for, or make the hot-read at the snap to mitigate. He's just not there in his ability to execute what a QB should do and it was a common thread the entire season. Check this out as an example:

No, he really didn't. Rees completely changed the offense approach to accomodate what JM could, and could not do and that was at the expense of being able to leverage more variety in play calling to keep defenses guessing. Despite that, even in the playoff game, JM wasn't seeing simple things that a vast majority of HS level QBs can at least recognize, even if they might not have the physical ability to do something about it. The evidence is damning that he can't see a guy 5-10 yards in front of him and it happened all season long. He can't even run the RPO.

Who cares if he can throw it 60 yards OR run 20 MPH?

Next year? I'm all for him having a breakout year if he works his mind and butt off to learn and do what'll be required of him. But oh how much he's got to change.

I just want the QB that understand the offense the best, can make the necessary reads and who can throw the best passes.

Can we all just agree whoever can do that should be the QB??? I'm 100% convinced that's what CKD will do!

In the Washington/Michigan game, Michigan ran some of the same blitzes that resulted in sacks against Milroe. The Washington QB got rid of the ball on at least two plays where the man came unchecked. I told a friend that those two plays were the same plays where Milroe was sacked.

A lot of the quitters going to the TP will absolutely regret not coming/staying here. Most of these are offensive players and we're about to build an awesome offense. I hope they do well in life but I hope their playing days go down the toilet. I have nothing for them.

Still have to be able to read things pre-snap and see the field quickly. If Milroe can suddenly learn that, great. The odds are against him.

Losing will empty the locker room faster than changing QBs. If he is smart, his focus will be on preparing the team to play winning football, not making any single player happy.

Why would they do that??? They just ran an offense that had less talent than what they'll probably have even next year at Bama and it led that team into the NC game.

Why resort to an offense/QB that is so limited when it's very likely one of the other 3 can run your full offense?

I mean, if after they see TS, DL and the new wonder kid JS and they think they have to do that fine, but I just don't know what is motivating this idea that somehow JM deserves another shot at "Lank part 2."

A two man QB rotation? As if letting JM run a simplified version and one of the others run the full offense? Again, why?

Only way I see a QB rotation is if it's TS rotating with DL and/or JS and they are all running the Grubb offense.

Only caveat to this is if JM pulls off the stunner and can totally change and adapt to what will be expected of him.

But, my point is JM is the one who needs to change to fit the offense, NOT changing the offense to fit JM. Been there; done that. It didn't work.
