I honestly think the best way to fix nil is starting with a salary cap type limit for each school or like MLb with a luxury tax if you go over an amount but instead of costing schools money you lose scholarships.
That would be circumvented just like paying players was before NIL. Or lawsuits would come forth like the ones that created NIL in the first place.

But I'd be in favor of it. Pay them all the same as a cost of living stipend of some sort. Then if they get more, deny their eligibility. College is supposed to be amateur sports.

Thing is I am not convinced the schools want this. I think they are happier with the boosters footing the bill and maintaining plausible deniability. That will continue until someone gets slapped with the LOIC for allowing the collective to run roughshod over the rules. Hopefully that day will come & we have maintained the high road so it’s not us that gets stung.

They were already receiving the “Actual Cost of Attendance” money that was approved a few years ago.

If playing by the rules they cannot have contact with any player not in the school’s roster. Primary rule in the NIL was supposed to be that it was NOT to be used as a recruiting tool other than to be able to say “we get an average of $xx for our players” or “we have a cooperative that does xxx for all our tight ends” etc. That was Saban’s primary beef - he believed that the NCAA was looking the other way while teams (Aggies) were actively promising recruits a specific NIL deal. At least in the FSU situation they chose not to look the other way. Consequences were not too harsh, but it was at least a warning shot.

Lane just can't help it, its this kind of crap that kept him from being considered for the job

Agreed in theory. But which would be better: should they be employees like faculty who get a paycheck for their services but wouldn’t be students, or should they be employees like students who get hired at the library? And if the later, does that then clash with employment laws on who can be hired/“interviewed”?

Whatever you want to call it, it would obviously have to be increased.

This is admittedly a flimsy idea. The reality I'm afraid is this money grab is a runaway train that nothing is going to stop other than fans just losing interest, and schools end up dropping football because they can't justify throwing that much money at it.

Specifics would need to be worked out by the legal minds, they just need something other than this unlimited free agent system that it has become
