The NCAA Enforcement Division at the very least needs to be dissolved.Given this "emergency NCAA legislation" that just became active today, one has to ask what is the purpose of the NCAA? Should it disolve itself into the waste heap of history? Is there even a point anymore besides just being an event planning consultant?
Dan Lanning makes a great point in this article: Who is thinking about the effect on graduation rates when guys transfer 3 or 4 times? Obviously not the NCAA.
At what point do the fans decide to stop playing their traditional role in this charade since nobody else is playing their traditional roles? My guess is soon.
Stupid is as stupid does. This is stupid and so are the yahoos who have abandoned all reasonable answers...including the judicial system that the NCAA appears to be so scared of.
Can't believe I'm saying this but players need to unionize and leagues (or a reconstituted NCAA with intelligent leaders) collectively bargain with them so that rules can be put in place that all agree to. This needs to happen post haste. This will be the only way that any rules surrounding player responsibilities will be enforced.

NCAA approves new transfer rule allowing immediate eligibility
A new NCAA transfer rule that allows for immediate eligibility will not limit the number of times an athlete can transfer, but they can't transfer midyear and play for a second school in the same season.www.espn.com
So serious question cause I have no idea. How did things work before the NCAA?Collegiate athletics needs administration and enforcement of rules. Pre-O’Bannon, I wanted to replace the NCAA with something else.
Post-O’Bannon, I think any replacement organization would face the same anti-trust litigation as the NCAA. Not to mention 50 different states having 50 different sets of applicable law.
You’ve got to have governance that (1) is uniform across all states and (2) will stand up to the scrutiny of the courts.
It could be Congressional legislation. But they’ve shown no serious interest. Also, be careful what you wish for….when that band of morons is involved, whatever they come up with could easily be as bad or worse than what we’re currently dealing with.
It could also be a union / management setup similar to all major professional sports leagues.
As much as I wish we could turn back the clock, we can’t. And as much as I don’t like a union / management negotiation in college sports, it’s the best alternative I see that will be both uniform and enforceable in court.
I don’t know.So serious question cause I have no idea. How did things work before the NCAA?
If you read up on the history of college sports (football in particular) you'll see the NCAA was necessitated by schools (Yale, Princeton, etc) hiring ringers to win football games. Even in the early days of CFB the 'power schools' cheated so much some rule enforcement was required. So serious question cause I have no idea. How did things work before the NCAA?
I am with you. players don't care. I've long been for the end of the NCAA, but not for anarchy - I've wanted something streamlined / better.
What we have now - what the NCAA has allowed to happen with its lack of foresight and lack of balls - has literally lost everything that's made CFB special for so long. Now it's just another pro sport with your favorite team's logo on the helmet, but with even fewer rules than the NFL.
I might watch CFB this fall but right now I just don't care. Few (if any) of the players actually care about the school they play for now. The Golden Goose is dead.
Yeah…funny this past week the portal was supposed to explode with players chasing the NIL dollars. You know what?I am with you. players don't care. Why should I?
I plan on watching much less college sports
Sometimes I look up and think…How did college football get this way? Moving forward I know the game will never be as good as it once was. Therefore I’ve adopted the viewpoint that I will enjoy as much as I can about the game as it is. The lesson here is: Enjoy each day God gives you because change will come…nothing in this life is guaranteed.
To me this “in a nutshell†is what has changed the most from years prior. I’m not saying the kids today don’t play hard but the higher goal of the team has been tarnished by the self serving athlete. Now that Pandora’s box has been opened it will be near impossible to change it back. Because of that fact I think we might as well go to a pro system and drop the amateur model that college football has been in for a hundred years. No doubt they have become more self serving and less team oriented.

There were also players dying and safety was such a concern that Teddy Roosevelt ordered something to be done or else he would ban the sport. Not sure if people called him a vulgar slang term for female anatomy for that.
To your point, what would you have done to change the rules but not result in what we have now?
Aw. Dadgummit. That's a shame. You mean now, the results of a game will be decided on the field and not in the NCAA orwellian "official" record book? The NCAA is dead as an institution...
The most obvious solutions are:To your point, what would you have done to change the rules but not result in what we have now?
Before the NCAA they were playing basketball with peach baskets and a medicine ball (actually I think it was a volleyball) and a football looked like a muddy watermelon and the forward pass was illegal. So serious question cause I have no idea. How did things work before the NCAA?
As much as I have railed against and wanted to see the NCAA replaced for many, many years, it shouldn't be surprising to me that they'd screw up even this, but here we are.Aw. Dadgummit. That's a shame. You mean now, the results of a game will be decided on the field and not in the NCAA orwellian "official" record book?
