Maybe every school in this country needs security screens like airports, or at least like what I had to walk through at Saban Field on Saturday. It was the kind where you just walked through, didn't have to empty pockets and people with bags just walked through as well with their bags. The only bags that were search were ones when the things alarm went off.

That's what the gun nuts would like but it misses the real problem of why this happens here. And next week when someone shoots up a movie theater, again, we'll say its needed there. The following week it will be churches, again. Then the following week . . . , ad infinitum, never addressing the real problem.

I did not mean that as a "this will fix everything" suggestion. More of a it can't hurt and might prevent some of these school shootings idea. We deal with security screenings at many places like sporting events, airports government buildings, etc. Schools seem like an obvious place to have them as well. Still need to address how easy it is to get a gun in this country but, it also seems way too easy to walk a gun into a school.

Shoot, maybe everything I saw at the game on Saturday was just smoke and mirrors. Maybe those security devices we walk through don't detect a thing and half the folks in the stadium were packing. But I doubt it because someone would have shot at those horrible officials.

Hollywood portrays civilian gun owners as fools, more likely to do harm than good.

The FBI confirms defensive gun use is rare. But researcher @JohnRLottJr says the FBI data is wrong, that civilians SAVE lives all the time.
Interesting piece by one of the few good journos left. I personally still have no desire to carry, but I do like to hear stories about "good guys with a gun" who did well.

I've concluded that there are people who have zero business owning a gun. Just like I believe there are people who have zero business behind the wheel of a vehicle. However, I don't want to take away everyone's right to own a gun or driving a vehicle because someone else. So, that is why I think access to guns need to be put in that weed out those who have no business having a gun and still allows those who want a gun and are responsible to have them.

I'll give one solution that my sons HS has implemented this year that has paid HUGE dividends. Beginning this school year our school district has banned all cell phones during school hours. You can have your phone on you but it better not be out. The consequences for having it out are severe.

Is anybody interested in the short-term results of only one month of school? The fights on the middle school and HS level have dropped by 80% compared to year over year for the same time frame. That's right, 80%. These kids live in a perpetual digital world that they never unplug from and the result is 100 times the social stress that comes along with being a teen. It's amazing that removing just that component has made that type of positive difference on our campuses.

Another week has gone by of school and still only one fight in a HS that was averaging weekly fights last year. Amazing...

Volusia Sheriff Mike Chitwood had a strong message to parents and students after an increase in apparent school shooting threats at schools across Florida. Several students have been arrested, accused of making a written threat. Chitwood said the hoax threats are 'ridiculous,' that parents need to 'do your job,' costing his agency thousands in investigative costs, and vowed to show the mug shots and 'perp walk' videos of kids accused of making threats. That speech has gona viral on TikTok. FOX 35's video has 7.5M views as of Wednesday. Chitwood joined FOX 35 News+ to discuss the message that's clearly resonating with the TikTok audience.
