You guys think Coach Saban has talked to CKD this week & gave him some Alabama football wisdom?

To answer the question posed in the title, Saban said on McAfee today that he has not spoken to DeBoer since the Vandy game. He said he typically speaks to him after a win, but he "just didn't want to get in the way this time".

Saban broke his silence today about the Vandy loss and basically sent a message to CKD and the team on the Pat McAfee show. Here are some comments in case you missed them:

"One thing I would like to comment on, though, talking about Kalen was I always really put a lot of pressure on the assistant coaches because they're kind of your lieutenants to get the message to the team," Saban said. "And I think Kalen has been doing a good job of getting the right message to the team but everybody in the organization has to reinforce that because they're the people that sit in the meetings every day with the players, and they got to impact that."

"I think instead of just particularly talking about the Alabama-Vanderbilt game, I think what you see is a lot of peaks and valleys in college football right now," he said. "A lot of teams that have big wins have significant letdowns the next week. I always talk about complacency, but if you put a little complacency with a little arrogance because you had a big win -- wherever it was -- and then you don't focus on the right things the next week, you really don't get the kind of results you'd like to have. Because when you're not focused on the right stuff, your execution goes to pot in a hurry."

"I was always much harder on the team when we won a game," he said. "If we won a big game, it was hell to pay. If we lost [pat on back].

I think Saban is responding to what i heard today at noon luncheon with CKD. CKD is behind on setting the tone within the team. What CKD is saying sounds good and is probably okay during spring practice or fall camp even. But the season is well underway and the sense of urgency needs to pick way up.

I honestly wonder if CKD knows he has a team that can win a NC his first year at Bama?

On Gameday this morning Saban said he saw a lot of arrogance from the team after the UGA win. Kirk talked about all the smack talk and showboating you see from the team that hasn’t been there in the past. Their basic point was it was time for the coaches to step up and take control of the team. That was my take at least, maybe I was reading into it too much.

Yeah they weren’t sugar coating any of it.

Yep, and yet the game was still a hard win. I think at some point t winning hard is going to benefit the team.
after that awful stretch from the last 2 minutes of the first half through their 2nd half drive and all of the boneheaded mistakes we had through that onside kick debacle, we could have easily folded, but we didn't.

Yeah, I see a team and a staff looking for an identity while learning a new way of doing things. A lot of change at one time. Everything was the same for 17 years, then it wasn't. That's not an easy transition.
