The woman doesn't lose autonomy over her own body when she becomes pregnant, regardless of the circumstances. As recent votes show, most Americans want abortion to be an option for women. Even Florida had 57% vote for reasonable abortion rights (albeit in a losing effort).
Oh yeah. Most voting did vote in favor. Who made it necessary to win by 60% rather than simple majority as most states had it? Republicans. So people here voted in favor of that Amendment...and then turned right around and voted in favor of people who will never give it to them. Personally, I think things have turned out as they did because people are in for a very rude awakening. If rump does the things he's claimed he will do (and who knows if he will or not), the people who voted for him will hurt badly from his actions just as much as those who did not. They just haven't figured that out, yet.

If only it was just them who reaped what they sowed.

this was incredibly hard to read but absolutely necessary. This story is my story if it happened today in Georgia rather than in 2003 when it did. In that sense we were lucky. We wanted our baby too, they named their's Siya. We still grieve our Jamie, so much so that I can't even share this article with my wife. It was hard enough for me to read.

I just gathered the courage to come back to this thread. I didn't think I could take it before since there seemed to be so many who simply don't understand much about how blanket policies on abortion can be horrifically traumatic or deadly. I thank you for posting this and for telling your own story. Sending my heartfelt love to you and your wife. You can't tell her but I send it anyway.

Republicans don't want popular measures to pass - if they don't agree with them.

I asked my state senator here(Iowa) why we couldn't put a reproductive freedom amendment on the ballot. She said that, unfortunately, the Iowa legislature passed a law that stated that, in order for an amendment to be on the ballot, both houses of the legislature must approve of the initiative first. Both houses are dominated by extreme right-wing religious nuts.

I was flipping channels on FM on Wednesday night. Ran across a local Christian radio station. The interviewer was talking to a Republican operative about how "their" side won. I wanted to call in and remind them that God isn't a Republican or Democrat. One of the biggest reasons I give the middle finger to anyone from an evangelical church who tries to proselytize me. The same reason I gave it to any Republican who came knocking on my door this election cycle. They know what they did.....they just didn't want people to remember.

A Woman Died After Being Told It Would Be a “Crime” to Intervene in Her Miscarriage at a Texas Hospital
Josseli Barnica is one of at least two pregnant Texas women who died after doctors delayed emergency care. She’d told her husband that the medical team said it couldn’t act until the fetal heartbeat stopped.

Alabama lawmaker moves to ensure contraception access during Trump presidency

“There were some people that were coming to testify on bills where they used the term chemical abortion, and they were talking about the morning after pill.”

“And so now, especially in light of the new president that was elected, and now that we have both the Republican House and Senate that will take office next year, we definitely, no time soon, will have the protections of Roe [v. Wade] reinstated when it comes to abortion access. But there’s still also an attack on contraception. And so, I just want to make sure that I highlight this issue.”

A third Texas woman whose case we now know about. There are many others. How many is enough?
Collateral damage is acceptable to the anti-abortion fanatics.

But here is the thing: We can understand people who voted for him 8 years ago - because he wasn't a known quantity, and hadn't had any time in office.

I would argue that many who switched their vote to Biden in 2020 turned around and said, "We like this <incredibly bad word for feces>!" Which tells you a lot about the fickle and myopic character of many people in this country.

The people who voted for him have no rights to any buyer's remorse. They knew what they were getting. Or should have known.

Georgia solved this problem, we dissolved our maternity review committee
