Also GaTech WR Singleton could be good.

Some UGA fans think he's coming to UGA because they recruited him...of course they think Arch Manning is transferring to UGA as well

Just a question. Is it accurate to say that head on, mano a mano, Alabama cannot compete with any of those four schools in a player bidding war?
Just for reference, the state of Alabama has 1 billionaire, Ohio has 7, Michigan has 11, and Texas has 73. The state of Alabama is surrounded by money in Georgia, Florida, and Tennessee.

This staff literally played nice with players all season, seemingly afraid to hurt their feelings. That does not work.
It’s according to what you mean by “play nice”. If you mean never criticize, give in to whatever the subordinates want, etc., I agree. But it’s hard to believe that a highly successful HC has employed that approach.

OTOH, if “be nice” means treating subordinates with respect, encouraging them and seeking their best interests within their responsibilities, yet always holding them accountable, always following through instead of cursing them or degrading them or showing them “who is boss“, then I disagree. I’ve been on both sides as a subordinate and superior and I know this approach works and with most it works much better.

OTOH, could be a difference between most Southern kids and most Western/non-Southern.I know Saban recruited a bunch of kids who are not self-motivated (i.e., needed someone to drive them) especially early in his time at Alabama. Maybe too many are of those types are still in the program.

Agreed - We are losing 2 of the top 3 guys taking reps at the spot and he'd started seeing more and more time in as the year went on. Seems like he'd be in a prime spot for a bigger role - perhaps the top role - at TE.
Tops will likely be Cuevas, they may have their eye on someone from the portal.

While this is true, Bama alumni and deep pocket fans live all over the US.

I wonder if Bama has an organized strategy to seek out donations from recent former players who have become mega rich thru the NFL?

This is why, as long as NIL is completely unconstrained, Alabama can’t play the same game as schools with more resources. CFB currently is most like MLB (no salary cap) but with no rookie contracts and with anytime free agency. From a tradition standpoint, Alabama is the New York Yankees; from a money standpoint, the Oakland (Sacramento? Las Vegas?) Athletics. Until NIL gets some better structure and guardrails around it, we’ll have to do something divergent (I.e., not just buying the best players) to compete for talent…

That is definitely true. We’re a national brand, but the same can be said for all the major universities out there. From a state standpoint we have less money flowing around than basically all of our top competition. We also don’t have the luxury of being the only major sports university in the state compared to some others like Louisiana, Tennessee, Georgia, Arkansas etc. TN and Georgia aren’t losing money and recruits to Vandy and GT like we do the barn.

Most kids aren't self-motivated, most people aren't. They have to have an external force pushing against them. It's human nature. So if CKD expects to get a roster full of "self-motivated" 4* and 5* athletes he may be unpleasantly surprised. There aren't "roster fulls" out there waiting to be recruited.

I wouldn’t mind seeing what Fluff Bothwell could do at Alabama. That dude was a beast in high school and I think should have gotten more looks from bigger schools. I’m guessing lack of top end speed was the issue, but he rattled off 7.5 ypc at USA this year.
I would have liked the post but it would have gotten flagged.
This is a picture from Antonio kite.

Cam is not in the portal. That was a gag posted by a Twitter account called gatorstroll.

I beg you all to stop falling for these and bringing them to the board.

If its not from hayes Fawcett or Matt zenitz.....actual accounts DO NOT TAKE THE BAIT
I apologize for that egregious error. I'll sit back and let the experts handle the updates and if I get bored, I'll just bash current players and coaches.

Yup. Unless there's some kind of cap imposed we will be second-tier in terms of financial leverage in recruiting.

We simply can't compete with the money bags that many competitors hold.

Heck, the billionaires at UTx and aTm could probably buy the entire state of Alabama if they really wanted to.

And it only takes about 5 years for a program to slip into irrelevance for young players in today's age of immediate gratification and 24/7 exposure to information.

If some rules don't get put down sooner than later, we might see ourselves get spent into oblivion.
