Don’t know what people were expecting with these games. Most of the 4 team playoff games were not competitive. Expanding and letting in even less deserving teams wasn’t going to create more competitive games.

These TV guys talking like SMU is just having a bad day but “their regular season body of work must count for something. This ignores that they have lost to every decent team they played. Their body of work was against cupcakes and should not count for more credit than the body of work from Bama, Ole Miss or SC.

The casuals are why NIL exists. They perpetuated the lie that the players were repressed for decades.
Certainly one persepective on things. I think it is the NCAA holding on to "amateurism" and not seeking anti-trust exemptions for years as to why we are here. Them continuing to be reactionary to everything is why things are as bad as they are. At some point just contractualize signing day and treat the portal like other sports free-agency models complete with a CBA and some revenue sharing. Yeah I know it is a far cry from the pre-NIL era, but the thing that gets us some re-establishment of order in the CFB universe. And yes the value of the education should be included in that contract!

I am not sure I completely agree with you I think the committee kinda knew what would happen here and just took the hit this year to prove a point that these small teams are not at same caliber. They put SMU at 11 instead of Clemson at 11 who beat them which would have made more sense. In doing that the sent SMU to Happy Valley and the freezing cold instead of a in state at Texas which would have been better for them imo. Clemson is still seen as a big time football team by most. It felt like the committee said here we will give you low level teams a bone this year but going to send SMU to Happy Valley and Indiana at South Bend.
you give that idiot committee way too much credit. They did not do this to prove a point. They are not that smart.

I think in the cases of SMU and Indiana some members were thinking "Well, Indiana never won a national championship and SMU hasn't claimed a title in 42 years so let's give them their chance here."

Nope. You are giving them way too much credit. They did this because they are not qualified and because they were motivated by political ideals more than merit.
They didn’t need to do that. We already knew that with Cincy in 2021 and TCU in 2022. They made their choice because of inclusion.
Yep. This is all manufactured drama and participation trophies. I mean, this thing was designed by a TV production company.

This is embarrassing. Further proof that there’s not enough good teams to fill out a 4 team playoff, much less a 12 team. We gave up bowl games with tradition for this.

Surely one of the 4 first round games will be close, right? Right?
That’s the thing that so many casuals don’t get. In the 10 years of the 4 team playoff, we only had ONE year (2022) where both semifinal games were competitive. All the other years, at least one semifinal was a blowout. The only reason why 2022 had two good semifinal games is because the two best teams (UGA and OSU) played each other. The other game was two teams that had no business being there, but they played each other…

We don’t need 12 teams. We BARELY even need 4.

CNS said it best in his argument on selection show. SOS should have been in mind when initially ranking these teams and then winning your conference title should have been the reward to get in. By ranking them so high before Selection Sunday, you made it a punishment for losing a championship game rather than a reward for winning the game.

Don't need 68 or 72 in basketball either, but creates more TV inventory. More people watch play-ins than NIT. This is revenue dependent, not quality dependent. Even the stadium revenue with campus hosted first round games is better than most bowl ticket revenue these games would generate traditionally.

The ESPN narrative is absolute and must not be questioned.
