We're very, very deep on the edges compared to inside, especially since we got portal additions in spring for both wolf and bandit (although one bandit might slide inside)

Wolf - Qua, Latham, Pierre, Henry & Carter (Latham and Henry are both possible tweaners who can play Bandit also in some packages)

Bandit - Overton, Collins (could slide inside), Keeley, Renaud, Hill.

Inside across two spots is Keenan and Smith, backed up by Beaman, Faga, and Mboumou.

So 5 guys across 2 roles inside, and 10 guys across 2 roles on the edge.
I saw that about Collins too maybe moving inside but isn’t he like 270? How does that work? Like the rabbit package or something similar

Some of those Bandits have and can move inside as you mention so not worried about DL. Mboumou is an interesting prospect and if he can develop that will really strengthen our depth.

I had the same question, and thought, about possibly on passing downs. He's listed at 285, but that's still a bit light for one of the inside roles, plus we have him listed as an LB, where all the other bandits are listed as DL.

Collins and Hill are really the only ones who I heard who have spent meaningful time inside, and as has been mentioned, they are both pretty light for that role, other than as perhaps a pass rush package. One of the reasons cited for Collins leaving UF was them moving him inside so I'm not sure that's where he wants to be here. Hills future is likely inside, but he's probably going to need a bit more mass. All the other bandits are smaller, so even less likely to be good fits as all downs (run and pass) type guys. I think we'll have better insight when the roster updates before summer practices start and we see updated weights and if guys are gaining or losing weight to be better fits for certain roles.

I think you are underestimating what 285-290 lb guys can do on the inside and a little caught up on the measureables. Arguably the best DT in the history of the NFL, Aaron Donald, was an undersized monster. Also, Nick Gentry from our 2011 NC team comes to mind and was very hard to block and created problems. It' not the size of the dog in the fight, but the size of the fight in the dog.

Unless they found a way to inject some fight in these guys I don’t think they have much.

I agree with the thought process, but those "undersized" guys you mentioned also had something special inside of them that made them play bigger than their size. I don't know if we currently have anyone like that on our DL.

Donald is certainly an exception to the rule, but most who are successful are a bit bigger.

It's like standardized testing for academics
Every so often someone who makes a 26 on the act does amazing things, but odds are the ones scoring 33 to 34 are the ones you should bet on.

Gentry was never an all down player and only played in sub packages. Mostly passing downs

Nick has always been a personal favorite. He could flat play. Coach Bryant would have loved him.

A tight end who caught 15 passes and 3 TDs at Troy may be a great kid, but can’t believe he’d make much of a difference ag the teams we play next yr,

My point is I think our 285-290 guys can play in the middle when needed and will do good. I'm very optimistic about our entire DL room......

I'm sure he's being brought in for blocking more than he is for catching seam routes. We need as much depth as possible right now at TE.

We need a tight end as a backup whonwill come and be happy to be a back up and we need an inline blocker, as opposed to a guy who will split wide.and we want to avoid a bidding wars type guy since we don't need a starter.and ideally he'd have some eligibility left over after 2025

Hes perfect for we need.
