Is it Really the Time to Consider Firing CKD???

In almost every post, I'm seeing this being advocated.

I don't see how it would be possible to do it one game into the year, even if it is the right/best thing.

Assuming the $$$ is there (which is a HUGE assumption), explain how it would work, realistically, for us to fire CKD, one game in???

And, if we did, who coaches the remainder of the year? Interim Coach? But then what's the future plan?

There is none. Tide fans will have to ride out this season win or lose. Paying off a buyout would cut deeply into NIL $$ and put the team even further behind the 8-ball. Time will tell if CKD can right the ship, but we haven't even made it out of the harbor.

No. It’s crazy to consider it.

If you gave him a pass for last year, this is essentially his first year.

That being said he has to find the balance between being a player’s coach and demanding accountability from the players.

There are definite questions that need to be addressed:

Late play antics: I’m tired of the unsportsmanlike penalties. Those calls have single handedly led to losing games.

Poor tackling: they’ve gone back to business decisions when it comes to tackling, that has to stop.

Run blocking: nobody is punishing anyone on the run blocks. Drive them into the ground at least once.

I think some defensive coaches need to be looked at very hard. I would not be against making a run at a proven defensive line coach. I think a moderately good Nil fund with a proven commodity at defensive line could bring the elite talent back to Tuscaloosa and change the dynamic of the defense.

People smarter than me would have to look at S/C. I do think catastrophic injuries are down post Cochran, but there is obviously an excitement and physical nature that he brought to culture that has been lacking since he left. I have no idea how you combine the two effectively.

The good news is this is all fixable. The bad news is these are all effort related, so that worries me.

It’s one game this year. Could end up being an away loss to a top 25 team in bad weather. Or it could be a loss to a 4 win team. We don’t know yet and talk of firing him should only be blowing off steam at this point not serious. He probably will get 3 years unless it really goes off the rails and it’s a 3 win season. People have pointed out look at Sark and guys like that their first few years. Time to call for firing isn’t yet. We all need to vent.

We will definitely see what kind of coaches and players we have. Three of the last four performances suggest we don't have good ones. However, we will just have to hope they can turn things around. We seem to have no discipline and no accountability, so I'm not holding my breath.

I think you are spot on about the DL coaching. We held steady in 2020 but have declined since... You simply can't have a great defensive unit without a dominant defensive line these days and we don't seem to be developing well at all.

To further add, I don’t think it’s beyond the realm of reality that if our defense continues to underperform that Womack gets the boot. Scheme wise, we are probably where we are for the remainder of the year, but his “swarm” defense isn’t swarming and so far looks soft as a baby’s butt. He was a huge downgrade from Kevin Steele.

I have absolutely zero confidence in him. In fact, I lost it after that Oklahoma game last year. But as mentioned above, the economic reality is he isn’t going anywhere anytime soon.

I feel that all of these issues boil down to culture and personality. His works in the Pacific Northwest, but it will never work in the Deep South. Especially not at a historic blue blood program.

The hope is that against all odds a leopard can change its spots before the economic scales tilt the other way.

If he isnt in the team meeting today, reading the riot act to the team, then yes...they should be made to watch every TV show analysis, every tweet/text from former players, every social media post calling them lethagic, soft and weak....if that doesn't fire them up or if CDB cant get them to react then yes...Im not sure that a visceral angry reaction is in CDB's DNA though..happy to be proved wrong

My knee-jerk emotional response to the FSU game is to burn it all to the ground right now and start over. And throw your hat down and stomp it while doing so.

But if you take the emotion out and deal with reality, we're in the ride-it-out until the end of next season with CKD no matter what, unless someone can obtain compromiing pictures of CKD with an underage spectacularly ugly goat and go the for cause route. Kind-of a long shot there.

Now the staff, especially on the defensive side, are fair game now.

Again, there is hope that he can adapt. This is the highest competitive level of college football week in and week out. That is exacerbated by the fact that we are Alabama. Dude knows how to win which would mean that he has had to adapt in the past so If he can learn and adapt from these first few failures then maybe he survives. But after this last effort in the season kickoff the timetable for him to do so has sped up tremendously.

Not at the moment. We'll have to at least wait and see if we make the playoff. Missing a 12 team playoff 2 consecutive years after making it almost every season with a 4 team playoff certainly would suggest a change is needed.
Absolutely! It’s not like Saban left the cupboard empty. This team should still at least compete. They are not. They aren’t prepared well, and they look like they don’t even want to be out there. That is coaching.

Theres A LOT of video from the game of players not appearing to be hustling. Former players are now publicly commenting. DeBoer now has a fire storm in his lap because not only is he having to deal with the fact the team looked unprepared, but players seemingly not engaged in the game. This could come crashing down on him fast if he doesn't fix this fast.

Steele really seemed to make a big impact and start righting the ship... I thought we were making progress last year, but this game was a big step back.
