On3 Reporting our 3 Yearly opponents are TN, AU, and MsSt

I liked playing LSU every year, so I will miss that. I understand it at least appears to add a little more balance to the schedule, but the reality is that it's going to be Texas, Oklahoma, Georgia, Florida and A&M every two years anyway, along with the rest of the SEC that appears to no longer have doormats, so I'm not sure how much it really matters.

Tennessee, on the other hand, got away with a very favorable permanent schedule. It should have been Florida and not Kentucky as their third permanent game. But again, the top of the conference will just rotate on the schedule every two years.

I am genuinely shocked. The casuals are so convinced LSU is one of our biggest rivals.

Mississippi State has never been a rival. They just happen to be the closest team to us geographically, and we had the longest streak of playing them over any other team. But they have never been considered a rival in the truest since of the word. LSU on the other hand, even before the Saban factor, was a much bigger game than Miss St. We played the game at Legion Field, which is where we played our biggest games through the early 90s. We rarely played Mississippi State in Birmingham. I think we tell ourselves that Mississippi State is more a rivalry due to the length of the series to justify getting the easier permanent game, but they simply aren't a rival. I've never heard anyone talk about the Mississippi State game outside of the week of the game.

History would disagree with that. They're much more of a historical rival for Bama than LSU is.

I think there is something to be said for geography, even if it's not as competitive of a series as the (recent) LSU one has been. If you live in west Alabama, you have plenty of friends that cross the boarder for work, school, or have moved over here. There's plenty of keeping up with MSU. With my group, it's more of a friendly banter, but it's still there year 'round.

I think we’re everybody’s rival. But everybody isn’t ours.

Nobody will straight admit it but they want the ‘easier’ game.

There is nothing about Miss St that says ‘Rival’
