But I'll be honest, when it happened I cheered like I was the one who hit him. It's not the most ethical thing to do but in the game of football, laying somebody out has always been the ticket to intimidation and dominance. If they skeered, they playing skeered, and if they playing skeered, they ain't winning.

What I am saying is, with the mounting evidence concerning CTE, the BS of “crown of helmet” and indicators need to go away. If that shot to the head was clearly intentional, deliberate and avoidable, then it needs to be enforced, whether it is helmet to helmet, shoulder to head and neck, forearm, whatever.

That hit still makes me so mad. Even if they say it wasn't targeting, it was still super late. It HAS to be a penalty either way.

In rugby, it is always illegal to tackle someone above the shoulders. I think football should adopt something similar. Lack of pads certainly influences it, but you don’t see stupid fore-arm shiver or flying spearing type tackles because that is always a penalty. The only analysis they do is on whether an attempt was made to avoid the high tackle and/or if the ball carrier changed direction at the last second. But all that does is impact the severity of the penalty. It’s still a penalty and the responsibility of the tackler to avoid the high tackle. Part of this assessment is whether an attempt was made to wrap up. If no attempt was made, the higher level penalty is charged (ejection from the rest of the game, aka a red card). For example:

I’m just sick of it. I was watching the preseason game between the Patriots and Raiders in 1978 when Jack Tatum paralyzed Derek Stingley with vicious blow directed straight at his head and neck, breaking Stingley’s neck. Every time I see a shot the head like Meadows took Saturday, I flash back to that game almost 50 years ago.

And it still sickens me.

Fine the player$25k, the school $25k and suspend the player for 1-2 games. That will stop it. You don’t see it in the nfl because of the fines. Another way to stop it. Quit reviewing it and call unsportsmanlike behavior, 15 yds and if the player gets another personal foul or unsportsmanlike suspension for the remainder of the game and 1-2 games suspension.
The booth review needs to completely go away.

A concussion can lead to a jello brain later in life if you have multiple concussions. I doubt they play for a few weeks and I dont blame them or the coaches. Those injuries can have serious long term issues. I hope they can get healthy soon and stay healthy for their sake

I think the protocol question has been answered so I won't beleaguer it. I will say that although it is unlikely, both could be cleared by Saturday.

Personally I hope both don't play this weekend, particularly Jam. Jam's role on this team has been used as a pass protector and his style of play is very physical when he has the ball in his hands. I'd like to see him get some time to heal and also get his confidence back that he knows he is ok to go 100%. Concussions obviously take a physical toll but they are also mental. We need Jam to be Jam when he gets back on the field.
