Coaching carousel 2025-26

Can you imagine if CKD takes the MIchigan job and then turn to LSU and say, "Lane, c'mon down!" LSU would just spit!
What do you think the Bama fanbase would do? I know some people want Lane, and he is a good football coach. But he burned bridges to the ground in Tuscaloosa, to the ground, and most of his Joey Freshwater antics happened in Tuscaloosa.

Yeah, no kidding. Why in the world would he sit there and publicly say "I'd start with Kalen DeBoer"? Why even be "that guy"? He's supposed to be an ambassador for the college not the guy who helps get your coach to leave. Unless he isn't a DeBoer fan, which could very well be true.
I don't think Michigan is listening to GMac and deciding on who start with a coaching search. If nobody wants your coach then you probably aren't doing that well. (See Mike Norvell at FSU.) Greg isn't at ESPN to promote Alabama. He gives his opinion just like the other talking heads.

I don’t see KD leaving nor do I believe like Damien Harris that he’s coaching for his job (well, at least not this year). He and GMac are either sending cryptic messages to the program/team or they just make a living by trolling.

The talent pool of coaches available is thin, the 26’ class has been signed, and it’s laughable to entertain the thought of LK coming to Alabama, especially since he’s never left anywhere on good terms but maybe FAU.

It’s a big distraction and I hope at least KD has reassured the players of his intentions in recent days so they can focus on Oklahoma.

Mark Ingram hasn't had good things to say about the team lately and neither has Marquis Maze.

I can deal with them and other players making statements. Harris and GMac come off as “we don’t want to look like homers so we say what everyone else does” It’s irritating and disingenuous to me.
Doesn't really bother me because they are generating traffic with an interesting lead and in this case it may be truthful that Michigan will offer DeBoer. The E in ESPN is for Entertainment and that's all it is. I know GMac is does a lot more cheerleading on Mac n Cube and it's targeted for a more local audience. Both of them do have some entertaining aspect about them as well! I think most of us are used to listening to folks like the Snake and Jerry Duncan when listening to the University broadcasts. But that's not a national broadcast role. I grew up listening John Forney, Doug Leighton and Jerry Duncan on the radio and I get it.

I think it's OK to be objective when talking about the overall picture of the team in relation to the sport and nationwide appeal. As long as they don't reach the level of Danny Kanell or Finebaum I'm OK with them.

He also lost the respect of a lot of people after that mess a few weeks ago. I believe in second chances, so I gave him the benefit of the doubt, but it's very clear that Lane still only cares about Lane. We don't want a guy like that as our head coach. He'd do the same thing to us if the NFL came calling, and it would be after the portal is already closed, which means it would be January 2024 all over again.

Then why not put it to rest now like other coaches have done already? I mean it’s not going away, so why let the drama continue to play out as a huge distraction the week of a major playoff game?
Maybe he hasn’t got an offer and he’s already said he is happy at Alabama a couple of weeks ago!

The concerning thing for me is the Vegas odds, that is pretty telling. Mind you it’s not the gospel, but he’s a top 3 favorite for a reason.

Those guys are good at what they do, and are privy to inside knowledge the general public doesn’t have.
A few weeks ago, Josh Pate was pretty emphatic that Vegas doesn’t have anything to go on in coaching searches b/c most of the time the people making the hire don’t even know what’s going on. Said it’s completely different than say, voting predictions because those are based on actual data/intel

Fwiw, there was a day when Lincoln Riley was 98% to Penn State … all because somebody bet a ton at once

You make a good point, but it is also easy subject matter for them to use to generate cash flow and profit.

What did they have to say? Other than that the world has changed with NIL?

I find it somewhat interesting that the people who decry the players moving on for money would do the same in their own jobs in the vast majority of cases. I don't care for the current world any more than most of us here, but the economic drivers will not be ignored by anyone, college football player or rational adult.

and to think we still have Black Monday to look forward to. For those that don't know, Black Monday is the Monday after the last NFL game. There will be some firings that day for sure and some NFL teams might go after some college coaches. Atlanta will hopefully be one of those teams needing a new coach.
