Game Thread: Early Bowl Games Thread

I only want one SEC team to win. I do not care at all about the rest of the SEC.
You say that, but that comes back to bite us. We can't claim SEC superiority and wet the bed out of conference. And the SEC is absolutely wetting the bed. When we only get 2 teams in later, we can point back to this kind of performance.

The SEC teams have elite offenses imo but the defense and physical presence is not what it used to be. The same can be said about Alabama we used to just dominate the line of scrimmage but not anymore.

As the sample size grows I think it becomes more significant. Seems like I remember for most of the last 20 years or so the national champion’s conference usually did really well in the postseason. I’m at work and can’t research it, but I also don’t remember too many national champions that came from conferences with poor-performing bowl teams. Things have changed with the bowl season so maybe it’s not a thing anymore (if it ever was — my memory sucks). I see this as a bad omen, but as long as the good guys win I don’t really care.
I guess that would bode well for Texas Tech. The BIG12 is doing really well, the SEC and B1G are pedestrian. But I disagree, the regular season numbers are more telling than bowl season. If this were 5-10 years ago, I would agree, but not today. Instead of bigger sample size with bowl games, it’s more the Data is corrupted.

the SEC curse continues...a dropped TD pass and then a complete miss on the next snap for a loss of 20...what in the world is happening

With NIL and Opt-outs, who really cares any more? 🤔

TBH, I haven't watched any games other than the CFP...

I am not trying to defend Vandy and esp. not Pavia, but they thought they had a possible shot of making the 12 team playoff and when that did not happen I can see the lack of desire or fire playing in these bowl games. It's almost like Bama every year, championship ( SEC or NC) or bust. I know Vandy and other teams in similar fashion ( Texas, ND) are no way comparable to Bama in history and expectations, but you have to think other than the benefits ( money, extra practices, reward to players/ fans) of playing in bowl games, the real prize are the playoffs.
,whenever Pavia needed a big play, he always hit Stowers in the seam, or on the sideline. if he needed a checkdown, Stowers was always there for the dump off . Pavia missed his goto guy.

And this isn’t 10 years ago. Tennesssee had 11 players opt out, LSU had 2/3rds of their defense opt out , and so on and so on. Bowl season doesn’t mean much these days.

It only matters for perception. If the SEC continues to wet the bed in the post season, we're not going to get the benefit of the doubt when it comes into getting teams into the playoffs. This year the SEC has 5 teams in the playoffs, the B1G has 3. That's gonna flip based on post season performance. We may dislike our conference foes, but we really need them to step up out of conference.
