Re: Could this be close to the truth?

Since we essentially know nothing about what is really going on, this sounds as plausible as any other story we're hearing. I wouldn't take this as gospel, but I imagine there are some truths in there.

Re: Could this be close to the truth?

I've never been one to spread rumors, so on the topic of a replacement HC, I'm trying to keep my posts as neutral as possible. However - on the topic of Steve Spurrier, I've watched his teams for a number of years, and have always had a tremendous level of respect for the man. When he was at UF, the one thing you could count on is that his players respected him and were always willing to play their hearts out for him. When he returned to college FB from the Redskins, I also knew the history of the Gamecocks, having lived in South Carolina in the late '80s and early '90s. I've known that if any coach could improve the Gamecocks, Steve Spurrier would be that man.
IF - IF he came here, I honestly believe he could turn this program around and would have the Tide contending for an SEC title within 2 years and once again in BCS contention within 3-4 years - IF.
But as long as names are being thrown into the ring, one man I would truly love to see here is Houston Nutt. He would be one of only a very few HC's that would make tubby pack his bags and move to a different conference.

Re: Could this be close to the truth?

He tells Mike to get a solid plan together, because we are meeting with President Witt and Chancellor Portera in the morning, and you had better have a great plan to turn around Alabama football.

Not taking Shula's back, but coming up with a plan in one day that would turn around Alabama's football program seems a little absurd. Shula can't even come up with a plan to beat Miss. State in one week. Good read, but I doubt it's true.

If that is the first time that he thought about it, he doesn't deserve the job. Continuous improvement...

Kinda interesting. This aircraft round-tripped from Columbia to Stuttgart on Sunday and Wednesday, corresponding with RTs of PWB Jrs plane from TTown to Stuttgart. There were also corresponding RTs from TTown and Bham of other aircraft Sunday. Note - this aircraft is presntly in-route from Clemson to TTown.

I can't see Houston Nutt as a good candidate. This guy is nutty as a fruit cake. He was almost fired last year at Arkansas and saved his job by a stroke of luck. I believe he is in over his head and his true colors will eventually come out.

Annapolis is close to the flight plan to the Carolinas

if you are coming in from Arkansas

My bet is Paul Johnson.

Western Carolina guy with recruiting ties into Georgia

Sorry to bust your bubble, but if Dr Witt and Mal Moore were going to fly to SC, especially if they had plans to bring back Steve Spurrier, they would be far more likely to fly in a Leer Jet than in a single piston engine Cessna. Since it's been there for 2 days, it's more likely someone who flew to SC for Thanksgiving. Of course anyone could have chartered that plane. There are too many variables for me to put my money on the initial speculation.

AND, it would have been on the national news....

Re: Could this be close to the truth?

Since this is an unsubstantiated thread, I will add something that I heard someone claim.

This person claimed to be in a luxury box next to the one that Mrs. Shula was in at the Iron Bowl. This person claimed that when the interception happened, Mrs. Shula had a total breakdown and cried uncontrollably for 20 minutes or so.

Re: Could this be close to the truth?

It's my plane dang it! ;)

I just wanted to see if it would take the Ole Ball Coach more than 2 tries to beat his current team's most hated rival. Guess it doesn't.:biggrin2:

If this is true then I don't think the idea was for Shula to come up with the entire plan in one day but to see if he was headed in the right direction. It sounds like he is not. Playing muscial chairs with your existing assistants is not what Mal Moore wanted to hear. I'm sure he was hoping to hear Shula say he would do a coaching search for a qualified OC. Of course that is if all this is true and I have no real concrete evidence that it is. Wouldn't it be better if they just came out and said that we are going after a new coach instead of leaving Coach Shula and everybody else in limbo like this?

i feel for her. it's interesting she knows to a much greater extent how much her husband's job is in jeopardy than he does.
