With all of this stupid media chaos let us not forget that its OUR right as Alabama to win every game possible.
Were supposed to beat auburn.
Were supposed to beat tennessee.
And were supposed to win a national title.
Dont let anyone change our minds. Im sick of hearing and reading the negative crap.
Our tradition is what matters. Its what will always guarantee us a great coach. Its what has brought us here.
Lets stop feeling sorry for ourselves and start acting like-
ALABAMA!!!:BigA:
Please!

::Sigh:: Maybe I'm alone in this, but I am so sick of Alabama fans thinking it is their birth-right to win games. We haven't won a national title in going on 15 years now. We haven't even won the west in how many years? WE ARE NOT A TOP TIER PROGRAM RIGHT NOW. Also, if tradition guarantees great coaches, how do you explain us having to give the job to CMS because noone else would take it at the time except from Croom? I love Alabama and bleed crimson, but my crimson glasses have been removed enough to see that it is going to be an uphill battle with MANY changes to regain our spot amongst the elite teams in America. Changes not only in a coach, but in our thinking as fans that the name on our jerseys means we will win the game. Sorry, but those days are long gone as no one is scared of Alabama anymore.

The U of A. premature maybe , but you can bet your crimson buttocks it's there. I'm not gonna let the media tell me how I should be a fan that I should forget Bear, or Gene or any of the greats to come because .. it's in the past.. boy what kinda country would we be if that were a fact. George WHOO.. Abraham whats his name?? John F drawinf a Blank...

But I'll leave you to wallow in your pity ..

Not so much wallowing as it is facing reality. If you won't let the media tell you how to be a fan, you also shouldn't allow them to put misconceptions that we are "back" just because SI runs a cover. We went 2-2 against upper echelon SEC teams last year. I know that we are a traditional powerhouse and I feel that we will one day return to that state, but we are not there right now. The only thing that aggravates me is that people think we're still in the 70's where Alabama would show up on the field and the other team may as well have walked off the field. It wasn't a matter of if we'll win, but by how much. That's not where our program is at in coaching or talent-level. We've had great periods in our program, but we are not in the midst of one yet, and it is not our birth-right to win any game. Since so many here want to live with the Bear even today, I would love to see what he'd say if his players felt they would win again "just because we're Alabama." Nonsense. It comes from superior talent, superior coaching, and a superior work-ethic. Something that, as well documented on this board, we are lacking at this point(although I think our talent level is on the rise).

So la fella. When you go to the polls to vote for president, do you say..."I'm not going to vote for so and so because he's not like George Washington or Abraham Lincoln or Jack Kennedy? I hope not and I doubt so. You can remember your history and reflect on it, but what I think the poster was getting at is that we sometimes have trouble letting go of the past. What good is it having the most bowl wins, most NAt'l championships, etc if you are going 6-6? When the best recruits are going to other schools because they have better current records.

Look, I'm a graduate and a fan of the University of Alabama. Our history is very impressive, but at some point we have to think outside of the box. We need a new AD gameplan to fit the new collegiate atmosphere. The days of signing everyone we want because we are Bama are over. There are scholarship limitations. The talent pool is spread alot more evenly now. We have to get a solid footing with a new coach and continue to build our tradition, not rest upon the one we already have.

Of course we can't walk in kick off and call it a game we win because w e are Bama, thats silly and i doubt anyone reading this board, plays on the team, or coaches would begin to think that.

We have an immense pride in Our Univeristy and our teams and that translates in our belief. We do and should believe going into a game that we will win. If you don't you've already lost.

The dark period is coming to and end, we survived the sanctions better than almost any college out there could. We'll get that coach , the right one. I suppose you could count us down, but noone could ever count us out.

We got some bad breaks and thats just life. What other team in this country can go 6-6 with in the minds of many an inexperienced Head Coach and still Sellout the Stands.

I will always expect us to win.. absolutely. hell if I didn't why bother to show up.

Anyhow, thats just my opinion.

No explanation? Umm, I'm a little lost for words and refuse to spar it out on a board, but would ask you to leave discussions to Alabama football, the state of the program, the players, etc. and not personal attacks on how true of a fan I am just because I have a difference in opinion. I am a student at the University who shows up hours before every sporting event, cheers louder than anyone around me, and follows our programs closely. That being said, if you'd like to have an intelligent discussion about Alabama football, basketball, or any other sport, I'm more than willing to share my opinion, but let's try to keep it to that.

I agree completely with everything you've said. I, like you, EXPECT us to win, but that's completely different than saying it is our birthright to win. You sound like you understand that and I'm sorry if my view wasn't clear. I always expect us to win, but that's because I believe in our players, and(to some extent) our coaches.

I have tremendous pride in our program, and maybe that's why I'm trying to be realistic in the fact that we're just not the Bama of old right now. We have a great tradition and I want more than anything to see us return there, but I don't see the current ways leading us there. Hopefully this coaching change will steer us there quickly.

I don't disagree with you, and maybe I did mistake his intent. What I am saying is .. I won't forget ( not dwell ) our past. Pride is not a bad thing. Humility isn't a bad thing in small doses either.

We've never been able to let recruits gravitate toward us because we were bama .. EVER. We've had scouts, recruiters and Coaches out there even in the glory days walking the beat knocking on doors.

Not gonna lower my standards either. I want a winner, not gonna crucify him if he doesn't go unbeaten every year, if he has a losing season or two every now and then. It happens to every program.

I'm not saying the next coach has to be Bear .. it's unrealistic to think at this day and age a coach will be likely to repeat what he did, but to settle for mediocre or anything less, thats just not sports period.

Great points. I also think that whoever is our coach this time around needs more than 4 years to build the program. That is not a shot at the CMS situation because I think the wrong man was put in place to start with. 4 years is not a long time to put a system and a recruiting base in place, but it's also a long time commitment to make to one coach, which is why this is such a crucial hire.

I can almost guarantee we'll never see another Bear Bryant, but I'd settle for Lloyd Carr type results

C'mon Mal! Don't let me down!

I'm not one to call people out on this board...I normally just observe the passover when I feel like it because after all, it's just sports. However, it's the attitude you have, as demonstated more than once in this thread, that has caused the media to form their opinion of irrational Bama fans.

For the record, nobody has the "right" to win a football game. What makes us passionate about Alabama football is that we want to see the Tide Roll every game, every season, no matter who the coach is, etc. But don't confuse our desire for greatness as a God-given right. :BigA:

no. no. no. We have a solid gameplan. We have top-notch facilities. We have more tradition than anyone else. We have a desire to win and we have the checking balance to back it up. Records mean alot to young men. And it only takes a couple of years of real success and some instances of some real discipline being displayed to attract some potential to ALABAMA. By the way- If youre leaning toward the barn please go to their side! Youre making me sick.

Wow. Very mature of you. Calling people's loyalties in question because they disagree with you. No, I'm not leaning toward the barn. I didn't even mention the Barn. I have two degrees from Alabama and am a Tide Pride member with Football and Basketball tickets. And if people who have a different viewpoint from you make you sick, I hope you have a good insurance plan, because you, Sir, will be sick the rest of your life.
Roll Tide Roll and have a nice night. I'm done. :BigA:
