Now that Mike Shula is gone, do you think that Shula's Steakhouse in B'ham will remain? I think it will leave town quietly in a few months, just like Dinardo's restaurant left Baton Rouge after he was fired.

Hate to return to an old topic, but I think after yesterday's vitriol by Daddy Don, this subject is worth discussing again.

Mrs. Catfish and I ate at Shula's a few years ago on Valentine's Day. The food was pretty good, but hardly outstanding. For my money, the best steaks and especially prime rib in Birmingham are at John's City Diner downtown. They also have a location in Trussville, but we haven't tried that one yet.

Try Flemming's at the Summit next time. One of the best around.

Really, after what Don said, I do not think that any Bama fan should ever eat there again. Boycott Shula's!!!! At $100 a meal that will not be hard.....:)

I say because Daddy Don likes to run his mouth (don't get me wrong I understand defending your son) we help him out and just boycott the restraunt all together.

I for one am grateful to CMS for what he did. He brought the university through some rough times. But for Don to just constantly Slam us and Nick is an embarrasment to his reputation. It in all honesty makes him look like a whining father rather than arguably the greatest coach in NFL history with a valid opinion.

Just my 2 cents. Thanks for letting me vent.

I have a friend who waits tables there...said business has died after those comments.

I've eaten there once...spend...90 on a steak...it was pretty damn good...but, then again, 15 bucks at Publix, a grill, and I'm just as happy.

I've eaten at Flemmings a couple of times, but never had the steaks. What I've had there was very good, though. I'll try the steak next time.

BTW- The best steaks I've ever eaten were at a little hole-in-the-wall place in Horn Lake, Mississippi just south of Memphis called Conestoga Steak House. We used to go down there a couple of times a year. They also had pretty good frog legs.

Saban's Steakhouse? Maybe it was part of the contract. If not, it's not like he doesn't have enough money to start it.

Shula's was our first experience with a "high-end" restaurant. We didn't see anything telling us everything was a la carte (if we had, we probably wouldn't have known what it meant); needless to say, we felt a little "betrayed" when our side dishes cost 7.50 a piece (x 4). That's $30 on potatoes and salad.

So personally, I don't sympathize with Daddy that much with him feeling deceived by Saban and certainly don't worry about him loosing business. (Even though I realize it was technically a coincidence that we had this experience at Shula's. It could have just as easily happened somewhere else...but that chocolate soufflé was the best dessert i've ever had).
