Best players ever from your high school?

Re: Best players Ever from your high school

Hewitt-Trussville High School

Jay Barker - I think most of us know who he is!
Dane Prewitt - kicker at UMiami
Jason Standridge - signed with the tiggers, then went MLB instead

Re: Best players Ever from your high school

Wow. Trying to remember some Murphy Alums. For sure

Keith McCants
Bobby Jackson

I know I am forgetting some guys

Re: Best players Ever from your high school

Paul "Wrecking" Crew :eek2:

Billy Baroule

Re: Best players Ever from your high school

Hey Duke, yes it is sad. When did you play? I played '81-'85 and can guarantee you we didn't beat you......of course, we won a total of 6 games in 4 yrs (4 coming in my senior year!) We were so bad, I was the player of the year in '85 at 5'9" and 165.....wow, how I would love to be closer to that weight now!!

'91-'94.

Re: Best players Ever from your high school

I went to Homewood (many years ago I might add), but the best players from Homewood were:

Murray Legg - Alabama
Mark Robbins - Auburn
Eric Ramsay - Auburn
Evan Mathis - Alabama
David Ross - Alabama - Soon to be one of the best in my opinion

Those are the best, we've had others.

Re: Best players Ever from your high school

Dennis Homan (Bama reciever in the 60's) Packers
Jason Allen (UT corner...Yeah I know) Dolphins 1st round pick 06 draft
Rece Davis ESPN does that count?

Muscle Shoals High School

MSHS
Just to add some detail, Dennis Homan was a receiver for Stabler, 1st Team All American, and played with the Dallas Cowboys and KC Chiefs. Has 2 championship rings - Bama Nat'l Championship and Cowboys NFL Championship.

And as a MSHS alum, no Rece Davis doesn't count. :p_lol:

Colbert Co. (AL.) High:

Ozzie Newsome - needs no introduction.
Phillip Gargis - ( QB at the Onliest Village on the Plains) . . The year these two were seniors, they played Cullman for the 3A title. (four classifications at that time) Trailed 21 - 0 at the half. Won the game 51-21. Six guys from that team played SEC or Gulf South level (Jax State, Troy State) football.

Dante Ellington - off tackle for the 1999 SEC champs.

Leon Douglas played some hoops for the Tide

Phil Gargis is my cousin and I remember the championship game against Cullman well. The team bus traveling to Cullman broke down and players had to dress in pads at a convenience store while waiting on another bus. The team was late (almost had to forfeit the game under AHSAA rules) and didn't get to warm up before kickoff.

Thad Flannagan was also on that team and played for Coach Bryant.

And yeah, Leon Douglas did play "some" hoops for Bama: Link: Leon Douglas bio

CVHS - Cherokee, AL

Cecil Dowdy - All American - OT 1966

another good one from CCHS was Lenoris McClain - graduated in '76 and got caught up in the sanctions at Miss. St. - ended up at UNA where a knee injury ended his career.

Re: Best players Ever from your high school

Let's see..... I went to high school with a guy that played for the barn. His name was teapot. I don't think that was his real name. There was also a guy that played QB for Bama in the 70's but he didn't have a memorable nick name.

Dothan High

Re: Best players Ever from your high school

At Parkview High in Lilburn Ga, let's see...

Matt Stinchcomb, UGA, Raiders, Bucs
Jon Stinchcomb, UGA, Saints
Brett Conway, Packers
Ainsley Battles, Vanderbilt, Jaguars I think
Jeff Francouer, Braves

Probably others, PHS was ranked No. 7 sports progam for high schools in the country a year or two ago by USA Today.

Re: Best players Ever from your high school

Went to Enterprise and Foley.

The most Notorious I can recall was a big ole dude named Charlie Dare he created quiet the scandal for Auburn .. hehe.

Re: Best players Ever from your high school

Fayette County High School

Lance Tucker
"Mookie" Moore
Luke Tucker
Sam Collins

Ditto on that!

Also, I would add in there Kadell Wright. I know he went to Samford, but I think he could have played at Bama and contributed. He was some kind of running back and linebacker and super guy.

On the basketball side, Mike Davis and a friend of mine I played with; Ronnie McCollum. He was another one that I thought could have been a solid player for Bama, but wasn't really recruited. He broke all the records at Centenary and has played several all star seasons professionally over seas. Oh and he and Mike are cousins. Family got game! :biggrin2:

Roll Tide!! and Go Tigers! (FCHS that is)

I forgot about Kadell...he was a good player. I also forgot about the Bass brothers. I think the youngest one (Brian maybe) is doing pretty well in the minor leagues.

Yeah.

Jason, Kevin, and Brian all got drafted. I think Jason decided to give it up, but I really haven't heard much about the other two lately. Brian did have the most upside and potential to make it to the big leagues though. He and Jason were burners, I mean they could fly. Kevin was just a big ole boy. They were all good football players too, but baseball was their best sport.

Also, as far as women's basketball goes, there was a girl that was a great player from Fayette. Her name escapes me, but she was a great contributor on Bama's Final Four run back in the early 90's. I want to say her last name was Johnson. rtr
