old school from back in my day (class of '77): Miles Valentine, DL at LSU (sadly, concussions ended his career early, though he saw the field as a sophomore)

less old-school - Billy Luckie, QB, Clemson (my cousin's son)
recent vintage: DJ Hall (yeah, baby!)
(I'm sure there are others that I'm forgetting)

Southern Choctaw HS (mrs. exiled's school)
Spencer Johnson, DE, the Barn, plus MN Vikings - pretty cool, given the very small size of the school

Oh, and from the same school, our very own TiM, the pride of Clinton, MS!;)

Just to add some detail, Dennis Homan was a receiver for Stabler, 1st Team All American, and played with the Dallas Cowboys and KC Chiefs. Has 2 championship rings - Bama Nat'l Championship and Cowboys NFL Championship.

And as a MSHS alum, no Rece Davis doesn't count. :p_lol:



Phil Gargis is my cousin and I remember the championship game against Cullman well. The team bus traveling to Cullman broke down and players had to dress in pads at a convenience store while waiting on another bus. The team was late (almost had to forfeit the game under AHSAA rules) and didn't get to warm up before kickoff.

Thad Flannagan was also on that team and played for Coach Bryant.

And yeah, Leon Douglas did play "some" hoops for Bama: Link: Leon Douglas bio :biggrin:

Scott told me about a week before NSD that he was going to Bama, but I guess the pressure from his family (all Barn grads) was too much.

Union County Highschool (Georgia)

Andrew Williams #47(current UGA safety) He is my roommate now.
Small school in the mountains with not many D-1 athletes. Can't get scouts up their anyways.

I am from Ocean Springs, MS. We have had very few stars from there, nut we had a few decent players:

1. Irving Spikes (BAMA-Dolphins-JAIL)
2. Ronnie Simnicht (All SEC OL for LSU)
3. Richard Dickson (All SEC TE this year for LSU)
4. Deandre Brown (Rivals 100 recruit for 2008)- go get 'em BAMA- 6'6" 210 WR state hurdles champ as 9th. grader- unreal

Oden was a very good player that was always overshadowed . Very under-appreciated . Didn't he stick with Philly for a while ?

Howard Cross- TE for the Tide and Ny Giants 1990-2001 got a Super Bowl ring in 1990.

Other than that i think that's all New Hope High ever had to offer.:BigA:
