Re: Alabama 2008 Commitments and Prospects List

Scout now shows WR Melvin Ray from North Florida Christian High School in Tallahassee, FL as having an offer from the Tide.

Ray is a bigger receiver that runs well. He is physical and great in the air. Ray shows excellent concentration and body control. He has good speed and better quickness. Ray can make you miss in the open field, run with some power and run by you. He also will catch in traffic and go over the middle. Ray’s route running is good. Ray also excels in returning punts and kickoffs.

I feel like there have been more than a few waiting for this one. Scout now shows QB D.C. Jefferson from Winter Haven High School in Winter Haven, FL as having an offer from the Tide.

Biography:
Junior Stats: Over 1,200 yards passing with 11 touchdowns.
Jefferson is an outstanding athlete who owns a 32-inch vertical and an average in basketball of 18 points and 10 rebounds per game.

Another big OT prospect to add to the offer list, Lucas Nix from PA. Rival's 250 member.

Lucas was bumped up to the Rival's 100 list in their latest release.

umm, why is A.J. McCarron in this 2008 QB list??

It was a mistake. I put him on the list when I read about him being recruited by CNS. That article did not make it clear that he was a 2009 prospect. He has been removed now. Thanks for the correction.

Mobile passer one of 2009's best
The in-state Crimson Tide have made an impression early.

"I always rooted for Alabama, but I was mainly a Miami fan growing up," McCarron said. "I always loved Miami. My uncle and cousins live down there and I'd go down every spring break and they'd take me around the campus and show it to me.

"But my family is huge Alabama fans. My dad showing me tapes of all the games he went to and watched during the national championship years. There is so much tradition in that school. Tradition alone gets them a lot of athletes."

McCarron recently attended the Alabama Junior Day.

Scout now shows LB Sean Spence from Northwestern High School in Miami, FL as having an offer from the Tide.

One of the top linebacker prospects in South Florida, Spence helped lead his team to the Class 6A state championship. He had 160 tackles, three sacks, two interceptions and one fumble recovery.

Scout now shows DE Robert Quinn from Fort Dorchester High School in North Charleston, SC as having an offer from the Tide. Looks like another impressive DE prospect.

In person, everything about Quinn is just bigger - his head, his hands, his arms, everything. On the field, his is quick off the ball with great leverage off the ball showing fast hands getting a good punch into the offensive lineman and crashing into the backfield where he has solid reaction time towards the ballcarrier. May be best suited in a 3-4 defense as an strongside linebacker.

May be more than just a coincidence. ;)

Re: Alabama 2008 Commitments and Prospects List

Marcus Forston is not listing Alabama among his favorites.

Marcus Forston: Monster on the Line
"Coach (Pete) Carroll said that the only reason he can see coming out to Florida to offer is when he finds someone who will be going to the NFL," Marcus Forston said. "I was like 'wow', that's really cool that he said that. My coach was really happy too. He told me that there are a lot of kids out there that wish USC would offer them. It's such a prestigious school and the tradition is..."

Marcus Forston, the 6-foot-2.5, 305 pound defensive tackle from Miami Northwestern High School, says his offer count is now at 23, with the latest rides coming from USC and LSU.

Re: Alabama 2008 Commitments and Prospects List

What do you guys know about Toby Jackson out of Georgia? Looks like he is a Scout 100 member and just came out and named Alabama as his leader. Has an impressive offer list too. Listed as a DE but looks like he would be a monster at LB.

http://scout.scout.com/a.z?s=14&p=8&c=1&nid=2390622

He's a highly recruited DL that like you said has an impressive list of offers at this point. JMO, but I think he stays on the DL in college, I'm not sure he has enough speed to play LB. He moves really well for a guy his size for sure, but I think DE would ultimately be his best position.

How's the skinny or break down on Andrew Luck 6'4" 215 Tx boy at the QB spot.

Luck has an offer from Bama now and he looks to be one of the best QBs in the state of Texas this year. Another big QB who can really move, much like the other QBs CNS has offered.

Also, should be mentioned that WR Chris Tolliver from LA now has an offer from Bama. He'll be one of the most highly recruited players in LA this year, and one of the most highly recruited WRs in the South IMO.
