Well, for one thing, it is August and I really don't think that you can say that our program is in decline because we are ranked #15 in August. We have 10 spots left and they are all reserved for 4 and 5 star players and we are looking good for quite a few of them. We'll be fine. But, we can argue that in February. Even so, it is a down year in Louisiana and LSU has been expected to slide a bit in recruiting this year because of that. Also, several of our 3 stars are about to be bumped up to 4 stars when the new rankings come out, so we'll jump quite a bit.

Secondly, if you are so excited about where teams are ranked right now, Alabama is ranked #11. Didn't you do that under Shula?

I think that #11 is a pretty decent spot, by the way. I just have no idea how you can make an arugment that LSU is in decline because we are #15 in August after having finished #7 and #4 the past two years. Really, anywhere in the top 10 is a wash, in my opinion.

The guy said LSU's recruiting was down, which, so far in '07 it is. Sure, every LSU recruit will be bumped up 10 stars, but for now, LSU fans are worried. And yes, they really are, look at the boards.

Any way, forget it - there's really no sense in trying to tell you guys anything other than "Les Miles is the single greatest coach EVAR".

Why not try an LSU forum...

Oh . . . you're talking about the irrational angst of LSU fans. I misunderstood. Saban called that "Catastrophe Syndrome." It rears it's ugly head around three times a week. I thought you were talking about reality. Sorry for the confusion.

Anyway, I don't think that Miles is the best coach ever. Actually, I've said quite a few times that I think that Saban is better. He's my favorite LSU coach and I still think he's great. That's why I'm interested in him and Bama and why I am discussing football with you guys. I just also disagree that LSU is headed for a major slide now that he's gone.

CNS put LSU on the map, and I'd agree with you and think LSU will be very good for the next few years. I wouldn't say LSU would have a major slide, but I think that we will catch up to yall's talent level in the next 2-3 years.

CNS may have put them BACK on the map but LSU was not Vandy - They were a heckuva team under Mclendon - Similar to Bama really bad hires IMHO Mike Archer, Dinardo..etc but LSU was a tough team years ago - They did not give up easy. It used to be my favorite game, I'll never forget us shutting down 'Alexander the Great' I think it was only time he didn't get 100 yards. Typical Bryant team take your strength and completely shut it down

There is no shame in winning with Shula's recruits - He & the name ALABAMA did a decent job of getting some athletes. Bama is always gonna get some decent players regardless of the coach - with CNS that is multiplied by 10.

I am not concerned with LSU or Les Myles that is for the LSU board

Evidence? Averaging 11 wins a season and consecutive top-5 finishes doesn't suggest that to me. I'll wait until Les actually starts losing before I predict LSU's demise.

Fellers, this suggestion that LSU's success has everything do to Nick's recruits is getting lamer as each year passes. Of the 16 remaining LSU seniors that Nick signed, exactly 9 lettered under Nick as sophomores. Only 7 redshirt juniors that Nick signed will still be on the team next year and none of those guys ever played a single game under Nick. It simply isn't Nick's team anymore, it's Les'.

Why didn't Zook win with Spurriers fine players that he inherited? Why didn't Dubose win with Stalling's recruits? Because recruits are just one part of the formula. Les did not have to enter a rebuilding situation at LSU, but neither did Nick, who won the SEC in his second season with Dinardo's recruits. Les could have screwed the pooch like Zook and Dubose . . . but he didn't.
 
This discussion is ridiculous.

Of course the players were recruited by Saban. But Pelini is one of the best defensive coordinators in the country. The coaches do a whole lot more throughout the year to better their players than what you think. Pelini calling the plays on Saturday' isnt the only thing he does.

Just how new are you?;) After reading my post it is somewhat pathetic. This is a Bama board after all so if we lean toward the home team that is to be expected. I hope LM stays long enough for the annual thrashings to return.

Maybe Spurrier can answer the 'why did DuBose not win' with Stallings players. ;)

Actually DuBose won an SEC championship completely embarrassing Spurrier's Gators. So until Les can win an SEC Trophy with ANYBODY'S players let's not compare him with those who have

I think winning the SEC Championship going through the Gators twice in one year equals a winning season bit that is just me

Les Miles needs NO defending His record speaks for itself

Red I have to disagree just a little that Nick did have some rebuilding to do at LSU. DiNardo had back to back losing seasons before he was shown the door. 4-7 in 1998 and 3-8 in 1999. DiNardo had also alienated several Louisiana HS programs from wanting their players to come to LSU and play for him. DiNardo was losing control of the players and discipline, no bowl games in two years, tanking a preseason #3 ranking and going into the toilet at breakneck speed. You should admit that LSU football was really in trouble when Nick arrived.
 
Miles is a good coach no matter whose players they are. I have been here in the middle LSU country for over a year now. I have not met an LSU fan (and I’ve met plenty of them) that thinks Miles is coach that they want. With all the talk about Les doing it with Nick's players really irritates Les and is evident in some of his past comments. The feeling I get here is that Les is not getting the fan support that he probably deserves. I think he's a good coach just not a good communicator. He's just having a hard time with all the attention that CNS is getting with the media, which is not Nick’s fault. Let's forget all that and settle it on the field. I have enjoyed living here in Louisiana. The people are great and have treated me with respect. Everywhere I go down here someone makes a comment about Alabama because of my cap or shirt and that was happening before Nick became our coach. It has never been negative. Can't wait for the season to start. RTR
 
I've always thought that a rebuilding coach, or even a coach following a successful predecessor, has three steps to make. The first is to take the preceding coach's players and prove that he can do more (or, at least, as much, with promise to do better) with them than the guy he replaced. Next, he has to prove he can recruit. Third, he has to exceed (if the guy were unsuccessful or, at least, equal, if the former coach were successful) his predecessor's accomplishments with his own recruits. I'd say that CLM is really between steps two and three at this point. Three obviously requires several years to finally shake out, so we'll wait, despite the impatience on both sides... :D
