In the middle of Hog Country
I can't wait to see the Tide on ESPN. I think we may get a totally different perception of BAMA on HDTV. You can really get a feel for team speed and other things not seen on the lower tier broadcast. It's amazing how LF or PPV can leave you wondering what you really watched. I know my new HDTV makes you feel like your on the field.

Living in tn all my life I can't count how many time I took the wife and kids on a drive near the state line for a picnic on Saturday to listen to a Bama game on the radio because that's all you had.

Times have changed..

That is funny stuff. I have some of my fondest memories listing to John Forney (sp) and Paul Kennedy on the radio with my grandfather. Very few games on tv back then. When there was one, everyone in our extended family would go to whoever had the largest tv and tallest antenna to watch the game. Back when Major O would go through 5 or 6 tear away jerseys per game. For some odd reason with all of todays technology I still miss those days.

Then came Keith Jackson and Brent Musberger on ABC's game of the week. Musberger hates Bama, but at least you could see it.

When Perkins got to Bama my 80 year old Grandfather and I watched games on TV. My grandfather always said Coach Bryant's teams tackle better and hit harder. He had probably seen 10 games in his life on TV. I guess Forney made it sound more vicious. LOL

I remember going by the bootleggers with a buddy, getting a six pack, and listening to the Bama-USC game when Coach Bryant unveiled the wishbone. Of course it was in LA and broadcast on AM. That late at night, it was hard to pick up out in the country, but you could do wonders with those AM radios in those '55 Chevys.

The Bryant museum used to have a room set up like a typical old 70's Bama fan's den which was very close to what my grandparents house looked like, complete with the old style TV. The museum would even run old coaches shows and old games for the full effect. Having said that, I used to enjoy watching Bama games with my grandfather. He had Alzheimer's. We'd enjoy a Bama touchdown and then he'd see the replay and get excited all over again because in his mind we'd scored again. I thought one time about telling him but I didn't when I realized the game he was watching was MUCH better than the one I was watching.

This is my 3rd year of having HDTV b/c I'm a first adopter ;). In fact, it was my wife who insisted on getting the HDTV 3 years ago just for watching college football (Yes, I'm a very lucky guy, too!)

What you say is correct. I would watch Auburn State vs Florida Military Institute if it were in HD :)

Oh the trials and tribulations I have suffered thus far...

I finally convinced the wife last Sunday that HDTV was inevitable, and we were in a postion to go ahead and get one. (It is no coincidence that it's Arkansas week!)

After purchasing the set I have been eyeing for a couple of months, I headed home to blissfully set it up.

#1- I called Charter to upgrade my services. Samir told me that it was no problem, I just needed to hook up the HD lines to my current DVR...

BUZZZZZ- wrong answer. My DVR was NOT HD ready.

Call number 2- I actually talked to a U.S. citizen who told me to drive to Alexander City to the Charter office and exhange the DVR.

#2- After exchanging the DVR, I needed an HDMI cable. 1st stop Radio Shack..out. Wal-Mart...out. Drive all the way to *shudder* Auburn to Best Buy. Found HDMI cable, but they only had the high grade ones left.. Cost- $99 plus tax.

#3 Return home and finally get everything put together. All the HD stations are coming in great, except for...E-S-P-N... Call Charter...give up on Raheem and go to sleep muttering curses.

#4 Go BACK to Alexander City to Charter office...They can't figure it out! Service call set for today in home.

It is Thursday. I had better have ESPN HD running like a top before 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, or woe be unto Charter and all their subsidiaries!!!!

I am officially $2200 into this and have yet to a single game. Hulk... AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!

Did Charter ask you to unplug your box for 30 seconds and then plug it back in? This is their answer for everything...

Yeah, I had a HD DVR replaced a while back, because I was getting sporadic pixellation and sound stutter, and the tech that replaced it failed to do whatever it is they have to do to get HD channels to actually come in. He said it could take 45 minutes to take effect, and left. The HD channels didn't come in.

When I called back, the phone support lady had me unplug it and plug it back in, and wait another 45 minutes...

When the HD channels still didn't come in, I called back, and they sent someone out again, who fixed it in 2 minutes.

All in all, the service for this event was relatively pleasant, and they solved my problem, even if it took longer than it should have. Also, my new DVR has HDMI output, whereas the old one didn't. Not that it matters much, since I run digital optical audio to my receiver anyway.

Brett, do you have the HDMI cable. If so, how would you compare it to the standard blue/green/red video cables?

My new DVR has both outputs. I haven't hooked up HDMI yet, as the component looks great, and my entertainment center's a pain to deal with, but I may do so.

Pretty much the same experience I have every time I've tried to change services.

With incompetencies like these, it's no wonder they don't want internet delivery of content directly to your TV!!!!

I cant wait to see how the team looks in HD Saturday. Im glad its on ESPN or I would not be happy. Apparently in Muscle Shoals local channels are not available in HD, so I am having to get DirecTv to send some kind of request to allow me to get CBS and ABC and the other channels like this in HD out of New York.

Good luck. I live in VA btwn DC and Richmond. Because of my zip code, I was given Richmond local stations. None of which were/are in HD. Most of DCs are. My req was denied. Every person who gets approved to do this comes off the staions list of people to advertise to.

This was the main reason I changed to comcast. I now have a few more HD specialty channels and get HD ABC, NBC, CBS, and FOX. ESPN was HD in DirecTV also.
